Doctor Shortage Likely to Worsen With Health Law

In the Inland Empire, an economically depressed region in Southern California, President Obama’s health care law is expected to extend insurance coverage to more than 300,000 people by 2014. But coverage will not necessarily translate into care: Local health experts doubt there will be enough doctors to meet the area’s needs. There are not enough now.

A good healthcare law would have adequately addressed this problem which doctors and organizations like Physicians for National Health Program were screaming about.

BAC, this isn't news. Many had written about this prior to passage, as well as the foreseeable exodus of docs if passed. But it was pushed through and we'll all have to live or die with the ramifications.

A couple of things to ponder as Obamacare swings into effect.

1) Every hospital is taking a 2% across the board cut in 2014 unless of course Congress kicks the can down the road like they have with the doctors cuts. Now, 2% may not seem like a lot to folks (especially the economic illiterates), but it is going to hit the bottom lines of hospitals BIG TIME.

Here is an example.

http://www.ahd.com/free_profile.php...ac175760f&ek=3e281ab9f9d0ad19c97e180545bcb4a1

St Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx does $850,000,000 in patient revenue and is losing $8.7 million dollars. For many hospitals 50% or more of their revenue is tied to Medicare. That means another $8.5 million loss on top of the $8.7 million loss. For those of you saying "healthcare shouldn't be done for profit" how long do you think this "NONPROFIT" hospital will stay in business? Get a grip people.

2) Part of reform includes what are called ACOs or Accountable Care Organizations. They sound great in theory. The premise is that a hospital will be responsible for a covered life. The net effect is that many primary care doctors are either closing up shop or being bought by large hospitals. Yes, that's right, more too big to fail. Brought to you by the Federal Gobblement in your best interest. Now many doctors like mine have gotten smart and started concierge service and moved away from medical insurance. He has little staff now because he doesn't have to deal with all of the paperwork. And he can control what he does and when he does it. His patients love it.

It is amazing to see some of the prescribed fixes to this problem like MORE subsidized education. The gobblement already subsidizes education. The fix is the free market.

Why do people keep insisting on the free market as opposed to government intervention when everything, from medical care to pensions, were originally free market? Nothing started out being government run. From the beginning of recorded history until 1935 or so the free market was "in charge" of pensions. People could save on their own and they didn't. When older, they were broke and no free market offered them food and lodging.

The same applies to medical care, education,.....anything and everything the government is currently involved in. Everything started out free market and the government had to step in because the free market couldn't handle it.

This free market talk is just another example of what Obama termed the Repub's old, tired, worn out ideas. The free market idea was tried. It was tried for thousands of years across the entire world! That's why advanced, industrialized countries have social security (pensions), medical care, welfare and a host of other social programs. The world wasn't created with government programs. They came about after thousands of years of free market misses, screw ups and outright failures. The free market has been tried with evey government program currently available. Every one. No exception.

So, folks, please stop suggesting the free market is the answer. It was never the answer. That's why there are government programs.

There is so much bullshit in here it is hard to know where to start. You have created a false reality for yourself and not amount of facts will alter it.

I agree that it isn't news to people who were paying attention .. and it certainly wasn't news to the many who stayed home during the midterms because of Obama's weak negotiations ..

.. but it is news to many democrats who were too focused on defending Obama and attacking the Tea Party to recognize that some of what was being said was true.

Now, as you've said, Americans are left to live and die with its massive failures.

I guess you don't know who provides the best healthcare anywhere, do you?

Yes. The United States of America. Spare me your WHO rankings with their bogus infant mortality rates.

Look at cancer survival rates

Shit look at your community. Whose fucking innovation do you think has kept your deviant cohort alive? You should be on bended knee thanking God for the life saving drugs that were only possible in the United States. Those who share your lifestyle would be extinct if it weren't for the first class health care in the US.

Now your bogus talking points and go thank the US drug companies

You are way out of your depth on this issue with me

The "free market" is why your jobs went to China, Mexico, etc and they are still going.
The "free market" is why we have the unemployment rate we do.

Yes. The United States of America.

More specifically, the VA. With it's single payor system, negotiated drug costs, and dedicated staff of mostly ex-military working in conjunc conjunction with the best medical schools in the nation.

Of course you can't start because there's nothing to start on. Give me one fact that contradicts anything I posted. Just one.

Oh, you're in deep, all right. Compare longevity statistics for countries with government medical vs the US. Do a Google. Pick a chart.

Do try to educate yourself.

Longevity has nothing to do with healthcare .

Like I said. One need only compare something where actual care is delivered and the US rocks
