A new petition gaining ground on the White House website calls on President Obama to cancel his estimated $4 million vacation and devote the money instead to helping victims of Hurricane Sandy.

The petition, which was created just two days ago, had 872 signatures as of 8:45 am ET this morning and is potentially be on its way to garnering the 25,000 signatures in 30 days required to elicit a response from the White House.

According to the news site delmarvanow.com, the petition was filed by John Phoebus, the organizer of a volunteer hurricane recovery group in Somerset County, Maryland. Phoebus was angered that the storm-ravaged county was denied direct funding from FEMA.

The petition states that for about the cost to the government of sending Obama on an expected three-week Hawaii vacation, Somerset could be rebuilt.

That's stupid. If Obama said yes it would set a precedent that no President could ever go on vacation again because there will always be something deemed a worthy cause that could use the money.

People complaining about corporations donating to Obama's inaugural party. Now complaining about him planning a vacation. Some people want to take all the fun out of being President. It's a darn shame! :(

Why is anyone surprised that libtards have no standards?

Corporations bad unless they give money to the negro in chief. Then they be good

Which President has taken the most vacation days?!?

It is a Republican shibboleth that RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT OBAMA has taken a whole lot of vacations. Perhaps because he often goes to Hawaii, his BIRTH STATE, and some people are envious.
One organization looked at the first year in office and found that Obama vacationed less than either Bush.
http://www.factcheck.org/2010/01/president-obamas-vacation-days/

That comparison was updated in 2012:

Calls to several Presidential libraries reveal that President Obama’s predecessor, George W. Bush, was on vacation more — 1,020 days — than any U.S. President since Herbert Hoover and possibly more than any other President in history.
Even President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was in office 12 years from 1933 to 1945, was on vacation less days than President Bush at 958 days. Calls to several Presidential Libraries reveal that no President can come close to Bush’s 1,020 days on vacation in an 8 year period. Even Lyndon Johnson, who spent 484 days at his ranch in Texas and at Camp David during his presidency, came in under Bush’s vacation time. Some claim the cost of Bush’s frequent trips to Crawford, Texas cost taxpayers upwards of $20 million, but the numbers are hard to confirm.
A recession started in 2001 as Bush took office after 22 million jobs were created during the Clinton Administration from 1993 to 2000. Bush began wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and presided over the loss of 4 million jobs. The debt when Bush left office was $10.6 trillion. In 2005, the Washington Post noted President Bush’s frequent vacations in a piece titled Vacationing Bush Poised to Set a Recordas Bush took the longest single vacation — 5 weeks — of any President in 36 years.

Personally, I'd feel more comfortable with some actual quotes from cited individuals at the Presidential Libraries mentioned.

Here's a summary from August 2011 giving comparisons. At that point, some people felt that President Obama should not be taking a vacation.
There has been criticism of the president's vacation at this time. But how does the number of vacation days the president has spent compare to his predecessors? CBS Radio's Mark Knoller has kept track of presidential vacations for years and supplied the data.
So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office. At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken 112 vacation days at his ranch.
Among recent presidents, Bill Clinton took the least time off -- 28 days.

I keep looking for a Fox News or Heritage Foundation or National Review story making comparisons of vacation time by Presidents. but so far I can't find it. THAT should tell folks something.

But I did find this one which goes into quite a bit of detail.
Those who criticize the cost of Obama’s Christmas vacation don’t want you to know that George W. Bush spent at least $20 million taxpayer dollars just on flights to his ranch in Crawford.
The right wing has been outraged at the four million dollar plus price tag for Obama’s family Christmas vacation, and they constantly hold George W. Bush up as an example of how thrifty a president should be when going on vacation. The problem is that W. wasn’t thrifty. He was the most expensive vacation president in US history. Not only did Bush spend more days on vacation than any other president, but he used Air Force One more often while on vacation than any other president.During Bush’s two terms, the cost of operating Air Force One ranged from $56,800 to $68,000 an hour. Bush used Air Force One 77 times to go to his ranch in Crawford, TX. Using the low end cost of $56,800, Media Matters calculated that each trip to Crawford cost taxpayers $259,687 each time, and $20 million total for Bush’s ranch flights. If cost of the flight was the only expense involved to taxpayers Bush’s vacations would still seem rather economical, but there is more, much more. Unlike the Obama’s $4 million Christmas vacation price tag, which includes the cost of everything from transportation to accommodations for the First Family, the White House staff, and the White House press corps, Bush’s numbers only include the cost of flying the president to Crawford. The cost of transporting and accommodating staff, media, friends and family is not included in Bush’s vacation numbers.

Maybe one of you guys could provide a "fair and balanced" comparison of vacation times for recent Presidents.

I'll wait right here.

I hope he goes for a swim and pisses in the water and some teabagger takes a big gulp of it.

Sheesh. Where's Congress right now? They aren't working on a tax deal, are they?
