What Costas had to say was criminally stupid. He shouldn't be allowed near a microphone if he is going to make any statement on any subject deeper than sports. His politics lead him to some of the stupidest statements ever heard. What he said wasn't deep, it wouldn't solve anything, and was solely founded in stupid partisanship. I know you have to defend your own politics however stupidly it is expressed, but this one is beneath you.

I don't think you can say that not having a gun there wouldn't have saved her life (by the same token, Costas is wrong to say should would be alive). I think it is quite likely that should would be alive because it is a lot more difficult to kill someone without a gun than with a gun (physically as well as mentally). And if he didn't kill her, who knows whether he would have killed himself.

The fact that people are murdered by other means doesn't render the statement bullshit. Look at the stats on homicide by weapon type. Firearms are used in the overwhelming majority of homicides.
