Bob Costas: 'If Javon didn't own a gun he and his gf would be alive'

It's almost criminal how stupid that sentence from Costas is...

It's like he doesn't realize that the man could strangle her, then take pills. Or break her neck then drive off a cliff...

This tragedy wasn't caused by him owning a gun, nor would it have stopped him from his "plan"... If the absence of guns would stop domestic violence then those moms who drowned their kids never killed anybody...

What an a$$!

Guns make killing people very easy. Without guns, killing a person is much more difficult. This is not a controversial statement.

Also, too, that "plan" in quotes is about eleventy times more stupid that anything Costas said. The guy went out, got shitfaced, stayed out all night, slept in his car, went home, got into an argument with his girlfriend, shot her, sped off in his car, went to the Chief's practice facility and shot himself. I don't think too much "planning" went into it.

Lastly, the "if the absence of guns would stop domestic violence . . ." bit is about elventy twelve times more stupid than the "plan" thing. Drool cup stupid.

So of course the answer to this CRIME is to remove the means of self defense from the people who obey the laws and play by the rules. Typical leftist dumb ass thinking.

this is why they were created. what's the problem here?

No problem here.

it's a bullshit statement. tens of thousands a year are killed by many other means as well, apparently with little remorse, so it's not that damned difficult.

The fact that people are murdered by other means doesn't render the statement bullshit. Look at the stats on homicide by weapon type. Firearms are used in the overwhelming majority of homicides.

Within the space of 36 years (1865-1901) three American Presidents were murdered. Each assassin was executed. No guns were executed and no gun control laws were passed. We didn't have another President Assassinated until 62 years later. Why?

If anybody didn't know that Costas was liberal by viewing his commentaries and his approach to sports they haven't been very observant. What he said doesn't surprise me one bit. But neither does the response he received via social media and such as a result of those remarks. I mean...it was a Cowboys game for goodness sake. Did he actually think that his drivel would resonate with the majority of the viewing audience that evening? My wife said as she watched him, "Oh, that's gonna go over like a lead balloon."

I don't watch sports I'm sorry. I have seen him on tv and noticed he is cute. I should have assumed that as a nice-looking man he would be a liberal though. Touche and I won't make that mistake again. :)

Guns also even the playing field. A 100 pound person vs. a 200 pound person of similar defensive skill levels... who wins? A man the size of Belcher is going to have a hard time against his girlfriend? Yes, a gun is potentially quicker. But to say it is much more difficult is an exaggeration. A stab of a knife or a punch to the throat and she is equally dead. The fact that it might take a bit longer is just your attempt to justify blaming an inanimate object for what happened.

It's a lot harder to use a knife to kill someone, and even harder than that to use your bare hands.

I don't agree w/ what Costas said or the timing of it, but guns are definitely a very easy way to kill people comparatively.

Look at the stats, SF. Murders by knife account for 13% of all murders. Murders without "personal weapons" (fists, hands, feet) account for 5% of all murders. Murders by firearm account for 67%. That should tell you something.

By contrast, firearms account for only 20% of aggravated assaults. Knives account for 18%. Clubs and blunt objects, 34%. "Personal weapons," 27%.

Domestic Abuse felon, been in prison five years for beating in his wife's face for the fourth time. Do you really want that guy going out to buy a shotgun?
How bout the armed robbery convict? Should he be going around with a glock when the last time he got his hands on a gun he used it to rob the place?
Or the two gentlemen from the Hell's Angels who did multiple years in prison because they beat the crap out of somebody for trying to leave(current case in Weld County CO), should they have the chance to go buy something to finish the job?

We have laws about felons having guns, on the other hand maybe if that young lady would have had her own she could have defended herself. Having said that, take guns away from law abiding citizens, criminals will still find a way to get them.
Gun control means both hands on the weapon, and slow smooth trigger pull.

I am curious, is there actually a "liberal" and "conservative" approach to sports?

Thanks... I will concede that it is easier. Though I would like to know how many times a gun has saved a potential victim as well.

Regardless... if you took away the guns, how many of those domestic violence murders would still occur? (obviously just looking for your opinion... we can't possibly know)
