Residents In More Than A Dozen States Petition White House To Secede From United Stat

but we do not have a 'democracy' for majority rules. We have a constitution that safeguards the rights of everyone. So how do you feel about being anti constitutional?

And clearly one of those constitutional safeguards is to allow 30k random entitled jackasses to get whatever they want by signing a stupid form. I believe it was in Article II.

All those red states that take more from the government than they give! Let them go, they will be begging to return once their taxes hit 50%! And their quality of living declines drastically! Ignorant!

Um, the blue states taxes would all get jacked up enormously as a result of red states no longer being a part of Congress.

For the record, I'd love for the red states to succeed. But I didn't sign the form. Why let The Obama know who I am?

I'm convinced that the dollar is going to be worthless and the fed will simply go bankrupt. When that happens all of these federal programs that you liberals love will disappear, and a skeleton government will be in place, hopefully providing a military and not much else. The states will issue their own currency and, just like the feds, the libtard states that are providing freebies will go bankrupt themselves.

In the wake Obama kicking Thurston's ass, thousands of ditto-head Americans have signed petitions
seeking permission for their states to peacefully secede from the United States. The petitions were
filed on We the People, a government website.

Instead of asking permission, why not move to a better country?
Iran, for instance, mixes government and religion so maybe try there, first.

States with citizens filing include Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky,
Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota,
Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Oddly, folks from Georgia have filed twice.

Not so odd - they can't read in Georgia so they forgot they already filed.

Even stranger, several of the petitions come from states that went for Obama.

That's a very, very stupid thing to say - as if everyone in the state felt the same.
Did someone from Georgia write this story?

The petitions are as dumb as you might guess.
For example, a petition from the Volunteer State reads: "Peacefully grant the State of Tennessee
to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government."

Why are you begging for permission, like a bitch?
Why not get up and f-ing leave and show the world how you feel?

Move the fuck away and take FOX News and talk radio with you.
If you do, America's IQ will go up 40 points.

Of all the petitions, Texas has the most signatures so far, with more than 23,000.

Fine - invade Mexico and move Tejas south 200 miles - we'll do OK without you.

Just go away and don't ask to come back when the hurricane hits.

A petition calling for the Obama administration to allow Texas to secede has reached the minimum number of signatures needed for an official response from the White House.

This sort of behavior isn't helpful.

yet you still avoid the issue.

That sometimes other concerns can outweigh the democratic process, such as a greater need to protect the rights of minorities and freedoms in general? No, I don't disagree with that. However, for general laws and governance, democracy is obviously our guiding principle. I honestly feel that conservatives have become so reflexive about the "tyranny of the majority" thing that they just sound it off anytime democracy is given any credence at all as a legitimate governing principle by anyone, even when it's not conflicting with said greater principles.

There is a time when it becomes apparent that you're just using a phrase like that, not in the defense of legitimate liberties, but against any and all democratic decisions that happen to conflict with your ideology. And that's dangerous, that is the more serious threat to our republic than any paranoid fears about encroaching government. Even if it doesn't eventually devolve into an excuse for an undemocratic seizure of power among future leaders and a permanent end to the republic, overuse of the term desensitizes people to it. Libertarians are the boys who cry "tyranny!" Eventually, no one is going to believe you anymore.

Works for me. Why do you care? Seems like a win win. You get to offload those religious folks you hate and enjoy you liberal dystopia.

Why do you see a problem with dissolving the union if it isn't working?

Just consider it a no fault divorce. You get to keep custody of the welfare folks.

Everyone seems to be focused on "those Republican States" and using this to try and make this look like an Obama vs Republican situation; but for some funny reason (well maybe not so funny), they seem to be ignoring those 13 BLUE STATES, out of 36, that have also filed for succession.

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wyoming.

California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
