Labor unions prevent nonunion power workers from helping in NJ.

Is WAFF known for doing "union hit pieces"?
It would appear that they are now. That and yellow journalism, at least for this story.

Let me ask you this WB. Which story has more crediblity the WAFF story which exagerates and sensationalizes this story while providing no primary or secondary source material or the one SF posted which discredits the WAFF story which provided primary sources, i.e. two seperate Utility companies who contradicted the WAFF report?

I'll tell you what I think you all need to read WB's original story again. Claims were made in it that have clearly been debunked by the CBS story SF posted.

I am not going to waste my time posting this over and over.

Okay so, you guys let me know when you have anything other than a story with no details, no names, no Union names, told by one worker.

We are back to square one here. What we do know is that there are non-union utilities from out of state working in New Jersey with no problem. Thanks to SF, who proved that.

:)

Sorry Darla... but you are incorrect. The article stated that the Huntsville crew was working in storm ravaged areas. It did not state they were working in New Jersey. Reading comprehension is really not your strong suit. I bet we find out they weren't working in New Jersey either.

except Darla... that story did not debunk anything. You are simply too ignorant to comprehend that.

Jesus fucking christ, is every thread on this forum bound to turn into a flamefest???

I posted a story I found. If the sources are not enough, so be it. (although those acting as if I am some sort of rightwing hacker have not paid attention to my posts these last few years)

A utility worker gave a story to a news agency. The news agency apparently thought him trustworthy. Some people apparently don't. But does all of that justify the bullshit spewed here by both sides?? WTF?

Huntsville Utility clearly stated they were not turned away:

Crews from Decatur Utilities headed up there this week, but Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur workers, said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can't do any work there since they're not union employees.

Huntsville Utilities said they were not turned away and are up in storm ravaged areas working.

Yeah, that's a debunking. What a buffoon!

It doesn't matter if it's the same one this guy worked for - the original story, which you apparently didn't read, made the claim that crews from both of them were turned away!

Guess what Darla... turns out both crews WERE turned away from New Jersey. oooooops...

I have only posted this 7 times.

and you have been wrong 7 times.

I have no idea what the rest of your nonsense is, you go on and on and on, but it doesn't matter - you will not deflect.

Your opening sentence is bullshit. Better read the original link again mister.

LMAO... you are the one deflecting. You are embarrassed that you thought the two utilities were the same and that I made a fool of you.

Now I am going to do it again... Guess what... the Huntsville crew is NOT working in New Jersey either. They are in Long Island. They were told they weren't needed in New Jersey. Oooooops.

except Darla... that story did not debunk anything. You are simply too ignorant to comprehend that.

This here is a perfect example of what everyone says about Sf - he's a liar, he never admits when he's wrong, and he's among the most dishonest posters on this board.

Just more proof, as if any were needed.

It's okay Sf - everyone already knows and I'm very confident I proved my case. :)

The union workers have welcomed the nonunion workers with open arms. They have provided fruit baskets and local maps.

The stoy I posted was bogus and I apologize for posting it.

Now Damo, would you please delete this cesspool of hostility? Let them vent their frustrations someplace else.

Bill Yell, spokesman for Huntsville Utilities, said nine of his employees are currently helping with recovery from Hurricane Sandy and had no union-related issues.

"That's a rumor," he said. "We are starting work this morning with Long Island Power Authority. We were headed to a New Jersey utility but they had all the crews they could handle."

apparently NJ has everything under control... no help needed.

Yell did elaborate:

"We were not turned away," he said. "It's a lot more complicated than that. One of the problems is whenever this kind of thing happens people call and ask, 'Are you going to send crews out?' but it's not a situation where everybody jumps in truck and heads up there. You have to work through trade associations. You have mutual-aid agreements and you've got to find a system that needs you and is able to take you."

when they stop others from helping in a disaster, dumbfuck.
Except that they haven't. Nitwit! That's all ready been shown. You just have a hair up your ass about unions cause as a scab you can't negotiate the quality terms of employment that they do and you're just simply a jealous little fuck.

LMAO... except that it is you that is wrong Darla. Huntsville is NOT working in New Jersey. Their experience could have been different than Decatur.

LMAO

So now the ENTIRE bs story has been debunked but it's embarrassing for me!

Okay!

"Huntsville, Joe Wheeler utilities deny claims of union discrimination during Sandy response "

Hilarious.

I hope i am this "embarrassed" and "completely" wrong about my election prediction! That's all I can say!

They are now. Because ALL this is a 'he said, she said' union hit piece.

It is yellow journalism
I agree.

I've never wanted to work in a collective bargaining unit myself and I'm not niave to the flaws of unions but it pisses me off when I hear assholes who know nothing about labor unions demonizing them. I have too many family members who do damned good work, mostly skilled work, and it pisses me off to hear them attacked by political extremists because they belong to labor unions.

LMAO... um... Joe Wheeler is a unionized company.

A spokeswoman for Joe Wheeler Electrical Membership Cooperative said the crews from Trinity also are assisting with storm recovery and, in fact, are unionized.
