Fact Check: Obama's false claim romney was a corp raider who shipped jobs to china

Cancel 2018. 3

<-- sched 2, MJ sched 1
The president's campaign fails to back up its claims that Romney 'shipped jobs' overseas.

But after reviewing numerous corporate filings with the Securities and Exchange
Commission, contemporary news accounts, company histories and press releases, and the
evidence offered by both the Obama and Romney campaigns, we found no evidence to support the claim that Romney — while he was still running Bain Capital — shipped American jobs overseas.

...

We will deal later with the false charge that he was a “corporate raider.” For now, we’ll focus on the claim about shipping U.S. jobs abroad.

Why does yurt always lie?

Here, Romney, in his own words, describes how he bought a chinese factory during his time at Bain.

becuase he really thinks wishing will make it so.

Just like how he thinks wishing the free market was magic and all you do is set it free and heaven desends on us all.

He just keep wishing away the entire history of man to hold onto this silly dream

Buying a company in China isn't the same thing as being a "corporate raider" nor does it mean that American jobs were "shipped" there. Seriously, that's the best you can do?

LOL

how did i lie? that is FACT CHECK saying obama lied. rune and evince have no fucking clue what a corp raider is. did you two even read the article?

why don't actually address the substance of the article instead of just spouting off your opinion.

Was Romney a ‘Corporate Raider’?

But that doesn’t make Romney a corporate raider, which has a specific meaning in the business world. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a corporate raider is “one who mounts an unwelcome takeover bid by buying up shares (usu. discreetly) on the stock market.”

Specifically, several financial experts told us, corporate raiders are those who lead hostile takeovers of public companies by snapping up publicly traded stock. With Bain Capital, the private investments in companies came at the request of company officials.

funny how rune and evince only accept fact check when it agrees with their positions

So what do you suppose Mitt did with his 20,000 worker factory?

Is there any doubt that Mitt is a corporate raider anyhow?

i guess poor rune can't be bothered with facts and can't be bothered with reading fact check. all he can do is insult and claim i'm a liar for citing fact check;.

LOL

Yurt's specialty is parsing words and verbal gymnastics.

What he's doing here is the same tired game he's been playing for the past 4 years.

Since Romney didn't actually box up and physically transport jobs overseas ,he couldn't possibly have "SHIPPED" them overseas...see how that works?

It's that kind of ridiculous verbal semantics that have destroyed all of Yurt's credibility.

i never said that. in fact, all i've done is cite FACT CHECK. so, you are in reality saying fact check is parsing words. LOL and btw, fact check never said that either.

why do you constantly have to be dishonest?

i'm not surprised rune ran away again. he always does this, he tries to debate or insult, then when i smack him down, he runs away and claims i have nothing to say. lmao. coward.

i love how the liberals claim i lied, then another liberal thanked that liberal...yet....the liberals don't even realize i was only citing fact check.

can we please get some more intelligent liberals on this board...please.

The one in China? He probably ran it successfully and made money. Why do you think that buying a company that already exists in China is the same thing as "shipping jobs" to China or even being a "corporate raider"? Be specific.

Why did he buy a company in China? Why didn't he invest here in America! Be a job creator, create some of that good old trickle down!

As specific as you? He didn't buy a company in China. He bought a factory in China. The factory makes goods which were once made here, by americans.

So what did the company in China make? Unless it was porcelain or some such unique Chinese product then it is likely that jobs were repatriated.

this line of thinking by rune and evince is so ludicrous. as if the US government under obama has never outsourced jobs.

you guys are blinded by partisan politics.

Why did he buy a company in China? Why didn't he invest here in America! Be a job creator, create some of that good old trickle down!

First he didn't personally buy a company in China. Second, investments are investments even in China. He invested a bunch of Bain's money in the US, saved many companies, and produced many jobs. Obama has investments in his pension (from Illinois Senate) om China, should we demand he give that up because Rana thinks that nobody should invest anywhere other than the US?

The reality: Romney was never a "corporate raider", nor did he "ship jobs" overseas. The evidence just isn't there to support either claim.

OK-OK-OK This is allegorical:

Here is Mr. Wong. Mr. Wong earns US$260 per month and makes 25 pairs of jeans per day, say 600 pairs of jeans per month. The cost of each pair of jeans is US5.00.

Here is Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith earns US$2,600 per month and used to make jeans. His output was the same as Mr. Wong's, i.e. 600 pairs per month. The cost of each pair of jeans was US$10.00.

Mr. Smith lost his job. But he retrained and became a car worker. He still earns US$2,600 per month but now turns out 2 cars per month at a cost of say US$20,000 each. or US$40,000 per month. The gross on each car is US$10,000 = US$20,000.

Mr. Wong contributes 600 pairs of Jeans which sell in the US for $20.00pr, a GP of US$15.00 or US$9,000 per month.

If Mr Smith had not lost his job his jeans would cost US$10.00 or DOUBLE what he should be able to buy them for from China.

Mr. Smith lost his job making jeans but now that single move has contributed US$29,000.00 per month to the economy.

Mr. Wong is happy. Mr. Smith is happy. Their respective factories are happy. The US jeans factory has been demolished and new houses have been built on the site. But there are people in China who curse America for trade practices and there are people in America who curse china for 'stealing' jobs.

There are some people who drive to work everyday in a nice car and buy a new pair of jeans every month.

NOTE: I have no idea how much a car costs in the US nor do I know the cost of a pair of jeans at Walmart. Just trying to dampen down a fire that was lit for no reason. Put your own figures in.

We could make the sensors here but RWs will say the jobs are in China because of unions.

"In a thriving industrial area on the outskirts of Changzhou is a factory run by Sensata Technologies. It makes sensors for cars. Sensata is controlled by the private equity firm Bain Capital, and that is where Romney comes in."
