LIE, he left with a so-called BUDGET surplus. Big difference. Clinton, like every President since Ike, raised the national debt every year he was in office.

What happened? How did we go from a significant federal budget surplus to a massive deficit? Frankly, it is not that complicated.

I see. How is that relevent to borowing money to pay for two wars? I mean if it wasn't for the consequences this would be laughable. Republican policies screwed the pooch and put our nation into a deep dark hole and their solutions to the problems they created is to give tax cuts to the rich and reduce government services to everyone else. Right Dude, sure thing. the real irony is how badly the right wing war hawks fucked up the wars and had to have a Democrat bail their incompetent asses out. History is not fiction....

The US didn't attack the Muslims on 9/11....the US isn't killing US citizens all over the ME by terrorism, and Bush didn't invade Iraq without Congressional approval....taxes were cut for EVERYONE....no essential gov. services were reduced.
Bush policy was already in place to leave Iraq before Obama was elected and Obama keeps us in Afghanistan by his own doing and is responsible for the 1500 US KIA's
under his short term in office....and Bush's borrowing money pales by comparison to what has been borrowed and spent under this president.

During this same period, Bush and the “deficit hawks” provided huge tax breaks to the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans who were already doing phenomenally well. These tax breaks for the very rich will increase our national debt by about $1 trillion over a 10-year period.

In addition, Bush and the “deficit hawks” established a Medicare prescription drug program written by the pharmaceutical and insurance industries. This program, which is far more expensive than it should be because it prohibits the federal government from using its purchasing power to negotiate cheaper drug prices, was not paid for. As a result, about $400 billion will be added to our national debt over a 10-year period.

1) It was a DEM policy that led to the downturn, Clinton repealing Glass Steagall
2) It was BOTH parties that have continued running up the debt
3) It was the Dems who fought so hard to prevent any changes to Freddie and Fannie when even an idiot like Bush saw what was coming. The Dems used their normal race baiting to scare Reps from taking action.
4) It was Dems in control of both houses of Congress when the debt exploded in 2007-2010. No matter how much you pretend otherwise, nothing will change that FACT. You know... those things you constantly run from.
