If you vote on principles and conviction, you can't vote for Obama

A bold statement indeed, but let's examine the facts. That is, if you aren't afraid to objectively look at the facts. One thing that seems to have changed over the last 4 years is how we determine what is a fact. It used to be, a "fact" was a cold hard truth we had to accept as such, regardless of our personal sentiments. Lately, it seems to be a malleable detail, which can be distorted and transfixed to whatever the prevailing mindset of the moment dictates. Used to be, you were entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts, now you are apparently entitled to your own facts to support your own opinions. Facts are completely customizable, one size rarely fits all. One man's fact is another man's propaganda. "Fact Checkers" have now replaced the old wordsmiths we used to call "Spin Doctors." It lends more credibility to have a 'fact checker' confirm whatever spin you are advancing, and this has almost entirely replaced the age-old custom of research and investigation of details. It allows things that were once considered rumor and innuendo, to be advanced as credible fact, because some 'fact checker' found a way to frame the argument around hearsay or gossip, and through mass media repetition, forged a "fact" from nothing more than thin air and imagination. It's an amazing time we live in, but I digress.

Let's get back to Obama and the election. Most people voted for Obama based on their principles and convictions. You based your vote on the things he said he would do as president, things which were inline with your own principles and convictions. Whether it was an administration that promised to be more transparent, or how to deal with a teetering economy, or how to create jobs and boost recovery, how to provide health care for every American, the spending and debt, or even how we deal with foreign affairs and the war on terror, you based your vote for Obama on his message of "hope and change" and believed this was the man to get America back on the right track.

Almost as soon as Obama took office, his administration began to break the promises made in his campaign. The very reasons you voted for him, were completely ignored, timidly walked back, or explained away as to how they couldn't be delivered because of obstructionist republicans. Of course, Obama did not campaign saying that he wouldn't be able to do all the glorious and wonderful things he had in mind because he wouldn't have a super-majority in Congress, did he? He wasn't up there saying, Look... I have the same principles as you, I don't like keeping terrorists at Gitmo, but there's really nothing else we can do at this point, we have to keep them there! Nope... he said he would close Gitmo within the first year in office. He also promised health care for every American, and lower health care insurance premiums, and that didn't happen either. All along the way, through Obama's first term, we see example after example of failure to deliver on his promises. The very principles and convictions behind "hope and change" which was the basis for your vote and support.

The very principles and convictions of "hope and change" spilled over into things that Obama didn't actually ever promise, but strongly implied by his rhetoric, and it would take weeks of writing to detail all of these, as his campaign was literally flying from one campaign stop to another, making bold promises targeted at that particular demographic, even when it contradicted something they had just said at a previous stop. But none of that mattered at the time, here was a man who spoke with true conviction! Who had a clear articulate message for the future, a plan and way to go, to improve our lives and make things better for America! ...And he didn't tell you he would need 8 years and a bullet-proof Congress, did he?

Obama led you to believe, he could somehow bring America together, to find universal solutions which worked for every American, and answered our challenges for the new century. He led you to believe we needed to end the wars and take a more diplomatic role toward our enemies. Our military is currently conducting strategic hostile military operations in 5 countries instead of two, and our enemies in the Middle East are stronger and more defiant than any other time in modern history. Two-thirds of the deaths in Afghanistan have occurred on Obama's watch, and there has been ZERO talk of our mission objectives, a timetable for withdrawal, what constitutes a 'victory' or anything else, it's as if the war simply doesn't exist to Obama & Co. America remains starkly divided and on an aimless path to something not good or healthy for our society. If your principles and convictions told you that Obama would somehow bring greater racial harmony and overcome the stigmas of the past, they lied to you. Obama has caused MORE divisiveness and disunity among, not just races of people, but entire classes as well. Anywhere and everywhere Obama has found to divide us and pit us against each other, he has.

If your principles and convictions made you find support for Obama on the basis of nationalized health care, his 'crowning achievement' as president, again he has failed to deliver. He promised affordable universal health care coverage for every American. What we got, was over 2,000 pages of bureaucracy that no one understands, which only gives a few million more people health care coverage, while dramatically raising premiums across the board for all. In order to do this much, he will have to raid the Medicare funds and mandate liabilities to the states, who will have to pass the expenses on to the state taxpayers. This brings us to his other 'principled conviction' of not increasing the tax on ANY American making under $200k. If it stands, Obamacare will be the largest tax increase in human history by any government on any citizen at any time. It will be a tax legally owed by every American, according to the Supreme Court.

Maybe your principles and convictions were inline with Obama's Keynesian philosophy? You liked the stimulus but didn't think it was enough, and liked the second stimulus too, and the bailouts, and the excessive government spending to 'revive' the economy? Well, did that work? Are we growing and creating jobs at a pace which indicates happy days are here again, or are we languishing and floundering, grappling with credit downgrades and a further devaluing of the dollar? We are currently in debt more than any country has ever been in debt, and it is currently growing at a pace of $1.6 trillion per year. My question would be, when are these Keynesian philosophies supposed to kick in? We've rang up more national debt in 4 years, than all other previous presidents combined, and things are just not a whole lot better. We may have hoped it would be, but hope has failed. And what about the most important principle and conviction of repealing the Bush tax cuts? Two years in, and Obama basically tells you that he can't end the Bush tax cuts as he promised to do, because it would devastate the economy even further. But let's just try to forget that is the exact same thing the republican candidate for president said as well.

Were your principles about government transparency? Were they about CIA/FBI encroachments on privacy? Were they about the rendition programs and counter-terrorism measures adopted in the wake of 9-11? Whatever you look at, you can see that Obama has simply failed to deliver on principles and convictions. He talks a good game, you lap up every syllable and cling to every catch phrase, and he looks so good doing it! But at the end of the day, what does all of it mean? Well what we are finding out, it means that you often get a proverbial egging in the face, like the case of the Pot Heads for Obama, who just KNEW that Obama was an ally! Obama has sent his US Attorneys and Attorney General out there to wage war on legally established medical marijuana dispensaries. There goes another principle and conviction up in smoke, eh?

Across the board, this president has failed to deliver on his promises. And the totally ironic thing is, he is now trying to blame his failures on republicans. Was he not aware that there would still be republicans if he won the presidency? Was he so inept and dumb that he believed republicans were going to gleefully support his policies without compromise or review? He promised a new era of bipartisanship, working together, getting the jobs done that Bush was unable to do. Did he deliver?

Great post. Two flawed assumptions. The first is that you assume libtardiots base decisions on fact. They do not. Otherwise they would not be libtardiots.

Second and most important, you assumed that most of them voted for him based on principles and conviction. They did not. Most of em voted for him because he was colored and a cult of personality. That hasn't changed. He is still as halfrican american as he was the day they pulled the lever for him. They voted for him because they thought it made them cool and less racist because they voted for the colored guy. Well, those emotions are going to be too powerful for the devoted here to shake off. They just can't do it.

Where do I start? ObamaCare. Maybe ask parents with children between 18 and 25 or those who have pre-existing conditions.

“…which only gives a few million more people health care coverage, while dramatically raising premiums across the board for all.” And “Obamacare will be the largest tax increase in human history by any government on any citizen at any time.”

When it comes to the biggest tax increase will that increase result in ONE family not being able to put food on the table or pay their rent? It will result in helping a few million people live longer and suffer less but let’s spend that money on vacations and video games instead.

War. Whether there are “hostile actions” in 5 countries or 50 countries the point is fewer and fewer American troops are dying. They’re coming home. Of course, that’s only important to those who place a value on human life. And who cares if the enemies are more defiant. They want the west out of their respective countries. Is that so difficult to understand? We wanted democracy and we got our wish. Now those countries have voted for the religious radicals. Maybe it’s time to stop wishing and get the hell out. Of course, Obama didn’t put the US there in the first place, did he? He’s stuck cleaning up Repub mess.

Stimulus. Who started the stimulus? Who was in charge when the country went to hell and a stimulus was needed? Unfortunately, when Presidents change certain things that were started by the previous incumbent, things like wars and stimulus, have to be continued and settled in a proper fashion. One doesn’t just pull the plug on things.

Gitmo. Wars. Stimulus. All things started by the previous administration. The Republican administration. The only “new” thing was ObamaCare and he did get his foot in the door of government medical and you will see that expand over the next four years.

Instead of blaming Obama try understanding just how bad the Repub administration screwed up the country. If those policies were good then Obama would not have mentioned changing them. If those policies were good then Repub supporters should be happy Obama didn’t/couldn’t change some of them.

That is where Repub logic, logic like the person who originally wrote that article, goes off the rails. They blame Obama for not changing policies implemented by Repubs implying (but I never really know what a Repub’s point is) the policies were no good but then turn around and say vote for the people who originally implemented those no good policies.

Repub convoluted logic and that also applies to the complaint of a lack of bipartisanship. Obama tried and tried to get a consensus on ObamaCare. Even with a majority and being able to pass whatever he wanted he took a reserved approach. The opposite of a Bush/Repub bully. He waited while the Repubs did everything to drag it out and after the 2010 election, with the Repubs deliberately obstructing it, Obama had no choice but to tell them to STFU and STFD. Their chance was over. The Repubs were not there to play ball. They were there to disrupt the game.

As the troops started to come home from Iraq the well-known war mongers started their TV rounds. Cheney saying how bad it was. McCain saying it wasn’t a good idea. Those same people are still there in the Repub party. The back room boys.

We saw how Rumsfelt and others came back when Bush was elected. Does anyone believe those same faces are not holding on to Romney’s coat tails? The same Repub war mongering, anti-social policy scum are there in the shadows just like Georgie is. We don’t see them because no one wants to be reminded of them but they’re there.

A Repub vote is a vote for them. The same old, tired, worn out, incompetent politicians who have been around for decades. The very same ones who drove the US in the ditch and the author of that scribbled on piece of toilet tissue has the gall to blame Obama.

A bold statement indeed, but let's examine the facts.

No, racist bigot.

Let's print out your worthless post and use it for toilet paper...

Go back to storm front, bigot.

Obama's going to be your president for the next 4 years. Start showing some respect.

The left wing progressives can. Many of the Liberals/Libertarians will vote for Johnson, Klein or not at all based upon our sincere principles and convictions.

Where do I start? ObamaCare. Maybe ask parents with children between 18 and 25 or those who have pre-existing conditions.

Unfortunately, Obama didn't just promise health care to parents with children 18-25 and those with pre-existing conditions, did he? And he didn't tell us that we'd all be paying higher premiums and the largest tax increase in the history of man... he said just the opposite. Our premiums would be lower, and no one under $200k would see a tax increase. There is a dramatic difference between what Obama promised and what was delivered. It doesn't matter what the excuses are, and it doesn't matter what the intentions might have been.

War. Whether there are “hostile actions” in 5 countries or 50 countries the point is fewer and fewer American troops are dying. They’re coming home. Of course, that’s only important to those who place a value on human life. And who cares if the enemies are more defiant. They want the west out of their respective countries. Of course, Obama didn’t put the US there in the first place, did he? He’s stuck cleaning up Repub mess.

So why has Obama failed to extract us from the mess? Why are we still in their countries? We've more than doubled the number of countries we're bombing... is that what Obama promised he would do? Is that what you supported? I agree it's time to get out, it was time to get out 4 years ago when we elected Obama on that very promise, and he has again failed to deliver on his word. What I don't understand is why you think we should give him another 4 years?

Obama was one of the biggest supporters of the stimulus. He promised unemployment wouldn't go over 8% if we passed it. But unemployment hasn't been BELOW 8% since he's been president. If new presidents can't really do much about what old presidents did, there isn't any reason at all to elect new presidents, is there? Much less give them 4 more years to continue not doing much.

Gitmo. Wars. Stimulus. All things started by the previous administration. The Republican administration. The only “new” thing was ObamaCare and he did get his foot in the door of government medical and you will see that expand over the next four years.

Again, Obama promised to change these things, not continue to point the finger of blame at the other side. I fail to see leadership in that. Wasn't the idea to elect Obama so he could change these things and fix the problems? If Obama had campaigned saying: "Hey, elect me and I promise I won't fix any of these problems, but I won't let you forget who created them!" You think he would have won on that? And is THAT the message for the next 4 years? Forget about these things republicans started, we won't end them, we'll just keep blaming republicans and doing nothing to change things, but we're gonna give you free stuff too!

Well, I wrote the article, and I didn't go off the rails. I am asking you how you can vote 'principles and convictions' when Obama has simply failed to deliver on his own promises? It seems that "Hope and Change" got perverted into "Nope and Blame!" Nope, we're not going to change any of this stuff, we're just going to continue pointing the finger of blame at Republicans! What kind of "logic" do you call that?

Repub convoluted logic and that also applies to the complaint of a lack of bipartisanship. Obama tried and tried to get a consensus on ObamaCare. Even with a majority and being able to pass whatever he wanted he took a reserved approach. The opposite of a Bush/Repub bully. He waited while the Repubs did everything to drag it out and after the 2010 election, with the Repubs deliberately obstructing it, Obama had no choice but to tell them to STFU and STFD. Again, Obama didn't campaign on the promise he would not make compromises, and when push came to shove, would tell the other side STFU and STFD, did he? He DID pass whatever he wanted, without one single solitary republican vote! There was no bipartisan effort, as evidenced by the vote itself. Blaming republicans is NOT leadership. Telling the other side to STFU and STFD is not bipartisanship or trying to reach concensus with anyone.

As the troops started to come home from Iraq the well-known war mongers started their TV rounds. Cheney saying how bad it was. McCain saying it wasn’t a good idea. Those same people are still there in the Repub party. The back room boys.

The troops in Iraq have followed the timeline for withdrawal laid out by President Bush. Obama changed not one thing about that.

Again, how are they different from Obama, who seems content with letting all of it ride and simply pointing the finger of blame at republicans? Was the point not to get someone in office who would change these 'awful' policies? Were we electing someone to do nothing about this stuff except continue to blame republicans? ...While picking 3 MORE countries to bomb?

A Repub vote is a vote for them. The same old, tired, worn out, incompetent politicians who have been around for decades. The very same ones who drove the US in the ditch and the author of that scribbled on piece of toilet tissue has the gall to blame Obama.

And a vote for Obama is a vote for someone who has no principled convictions, and no intention of changing things or fixing the problems, and every intention of continuing to whine, make excuses and blame the other side. The car is in the ditch, and you've elected someone who doesn't have any worthwhile plans to get the car out of the ditch, but they do plan to stand there and bitch some more about the other side getting the car in the ditch. When the car is stuck in the ditch, the last thing we need is someone standing there doing nothing, with hands on hips, bitching out the previous driver. At some point, we need someone to roll up their sleeves and start pushing! Bitching, complaining and excusing, is never going to magically get the car out of the ditch.

Thanks for the toilet paper, Dixie.

Just curious, where do you do your best thinking?

Wow, where did you find this picture of my cousin's weekend retreat? (What's really amazing is the part you don't see... there is a primative 'zip line' out back, which goes across a pristine lake.) It's a really cool and fun place for family gatherings! But I fail to see what it has to do with the thread OP or the topic being discussed here? It doesn't matter where I do my best thinking, what matters is you not being able to deal with my posts, and resorting to diversion and distraction to compensate for your lack of intellectual substance. It reveals how much of a shallow-minded idiot you really are.

Eventually, you'll realize that the rube's (Dixie's) posts aren't worth reading. He waxes moronically on and on because he enjoys the sound of his own 'voice'. He's an insufferably-boring blowhard.

And yes, wiping your ass with his printed-out word-vomit does at least make some decent use of his posts.
