it is a worldwide problem, but the u s of a is only doing a minimal job of fighting it...for now, see obama links

normally i would post this in app, but i think that as many members of this board should discuss/learn about it as possible

in washington dc, underage prostitutes are arrested and jailed while their customers go free, per cnn live - do you wonder why?

since the house is responsible for laws in dc, maybe they are afraid that if they get caught they would be exposed

According to the United Nations, Human trafficking is “the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons by means of threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power, or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labor services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs.”[SUP][1][/SUP]
Human trafficking has occurred in the United States for many years. The initial form was in the form of the slave trade.[SUP][2][/SUP] After the official abolition of slavery in 1863, industrialization, expansion into a global economy, and cultural changes have all contributed to the creation of a new form of slavery known as trafficking.[SUP][3][/SUP][SUP][4][/SUP]
The types of human trafficking that occur are forced labor, debt bondage, document servitude, and sex trafficking.[SUP][5][/SUP] These groups of trafficked people fund the formal economy and the illegal economy.[SUP][6][/SUP] Because they lack the protection of the labor standards that is given to employees of the formal economy, these groups are often at high risk of violence, severe exploitation, limited mobility, and deprivation of human rights.[SUP][7][/SUP] While the U.S. has created anti-trafficking laws in attempt to eliminate trafficking and protect its victims, the opposing views of the definition of trafficking limits the application and enforcement of these laws.[SUP][8][/SUP] In addition, a lack of cohesive national departments to battle trafficking as well as a lack of cohesive data about those who are trafficked have also made it difficult to assess and control human trafficking.[SUP][9][/SUP] Nationwide data collection services, however, are underway with the first national data collection to begin in early 2013 and to be by the Human Smuggling and Trafficking Center.[SUP][10][/SUP][SUP][11]

[h=2]History[/h]Slavery that ended in the 1860s depended heavily on the buying and selling of slaves, including of children.[12]
In 1955–1956, passage of U.S. Federal legislation to ban baby-selling failed.[SUP][13][/SUP]
A 20th-century offer by an unnamed criminal dealer in New Jersey to sell children, ages estimated as 7–14, of both genders and two races, was described by imprisoned murdererRichard Leonard Kuklinski to biographer Philip Carlo and the murderer said that, on a later day, he killed the criminal dealer and instructed the children to call 911 (police) and exit the building to safety.[SUP][14][/SUP]

[h=2]Current status of human trafficking[/h]According to the Department of State 2011 Trafficking in Persons report, the United States is a Tier 1 country for trafficking.Tier 1 means that the government is in compliance with the minimum standards of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act 2000 to eliminate trafficking. The minimum standards as listed in section 108 of the legislation are:
(1) "The government of the country should prohibit severe forms of trafficking in persons and punish acts of such trafficking. (2) "For the knowing commission of any act of sex trafficking involving force, fraud, coercion, or in which the victim of sex trafficking is a child incapable of giving meaningful consent, or of trafficking which includes rape or kidnapping or which causes a death, the government of the country should prescribe punishment commensurate with that for grave crimes, such as forcible sexual assault. (3) "For the knowing commission of any act of a severe form of trafficking in persons, the government of the country should prescribe punishment that is sufficiently stringent to deter and that adequately reflects the heinous nature of the offense. (4) "The government of the country should make serious and sustained efforts to eliminate severe forms of trafficking in persons."[SUP][15][/SUP][SUP][16][/SUP]
The U.S. is working to eliminate human trafficking in the U.S. and worldwide. Each year, the Department of State releases data compiled on the state of human trafficking in many different countries including the U.S. in accordance with the Trafficking Victim Protection Act of 2000's standards [see below].[SUP][17][/SUP] In addition, it also releases data on trafficking cases under federal prosecution and estimates of those trafficked; however, the report also cautions that the data may not be representative of the number of individuals actually trafficked due to both the lack of cohesion between many states and agencies battling human trafficking and the inability to account for undiscovered victims.[SUP][18][/SUP] Below is a compilation of data from a variety of U.S. agencies and the United Nations.

Problem isn't the customers or the prostitutes, it's the pimps, unfortunately the prostitutes can't/won't testify so they suffer, the practice goes on and the people who should be in prison(actually I'd prefer a more draconian solution but 8th Amendment and all that) get to make money and victimize more girls.

Not a good thing, and goes relatively unnoticed since terrorism is a bigger seller to the media.

You can find numerous underage prostitutes in Oakland walking the streets everyday. San Francisco has a dozen or more Asian massage parlors which is basically open prostitution with sex slaves. Everybody knows it. Nothing really done about it.

customers are part of the problem, they create the demand

however, a better solution would be to legalize, license and regulate prostitution...for adults only

then make the punishment draconian for pimps selling the underage

that is the same for most major cities, especially during hard times

Then all the underage prostitutes would end up with fake ID's. We've seen how well it works to make something "half illegal"(Marijuana).

It is a disturbing and worldwide crime against humanity in my view.....

and even more disturbing is, the so called femenists and militant womens rights advocates

worry more about abortion and taxpayer funded prophylatics than this abuse of women.....

Ironic really, a real, serious, and disturbing problem, and they're more worried about divorce law and the average wages of women.

 You're just totally clueless. You have an idea about feminists in your head that bears no relation to reality. I learned about this criminal behavior a long time ago and financially support Not for Sale. What are you doing to stop this abhorrent practice?

I really wish Obama would do something. I guess he won't because he hates black people the fucking racist

Speak for yourself, FR. What are you doing to end this practice?

September 28, 2012

Earlier this week, President Obama announced several initiatives involving businesses’ supply chains that will strengthen his zero-tolerance policy of human trafficking in the United States. Not For Sale has been a key player in presenting corporations with new supply chain standards and working them through the transformative process.

Actually, there are those of us that worry about all issues that concern women and support multiple causes, so you know not of what you speak.
