Gina Rinehart, the world's richest woman, says people who are jealous of the wealthy should work harder. (Twitter / August 30, 2012

Just in case you were beginning to think rich people were deeply misunderstood and that they feel the pain of those who are less fortunate, here's the world's wealthiest woman, Australian mining tycoon Gina Rinehart, with some helpful advice. "If you're jealous of those with more money, don't just sit there and complain," she said in a magazine piece. "Do something to make more money yourself -- spend less time drinking or smoking and socialising, and more time working."

Yeah, let them eat cake.

Rinehart made her money the old-fashioned way: She inherited it. Her family iron ore prospecting fortune of $30.1 billion makes her Australia's wealthiest person and the richest woman on the planet. "There is no monopoly on becoming a millionaire," she said by way of encouragement. "Become one of those people who work hard, invest and build, and at the same time create employment and opportunities for others."

Boom. Almost too easy.

Why are people poor? Rinehart blamed what she described as "socialist," anti-business government policies, and urged Australian officials to lower the minimum wage and cut taxes. "The millionaires and billionaires who choose to invest in Australia are actually those who most help the poor and our young," she said. "This secret needs to be spread widely." And now it's out there.

Thank you, rich people. We're not worthy.

So what is wrong with what she said? Seems dead on balls accurate to me.

what she says no doubt applies to some...but the majority are out there working their asses off and will never have the chance to inherit such sums. this lady is so out of touch it is mind boggling.

also...i dislike it when people take one person's actions or words and apply it to a whole group. bill gates, buffet etc....are the opposite of this lady and just as wealthy.

She would have starved if she had attempted to sleep her way into riches!!

You sure she's Australian? Sounds like a Republican to me.

I thought this was going to be a quote from JK Rowling. I read a while back that she was wealthier than the Queen and somehow interpreted that as richest woman in the world. Fuck.

"The idea that the poor should have leisure has always been shocking to the rich. In England, in the early nineteenth century, fifteen hours was the ordinary day's work for a man; children sometimes did as much, and very commonly did twelve hours a day. When meddlesome busybodies suggested that perhaps these hours were rather long, they were told that work kept adults from drink and children from mischief. When I was a child, shortly after urban working men had acquired the vote, certain public holidays were established by law, to the great indignation of the upper classes. I remember hearing an old Duchess say: 'What do the poor want with holidays? They ought to work.' People nowadays are less frank, but the sentiment persists, and is the source of much of our economic confusion."

What's wrong is that if all it took was hard work and investing, most Americans would be millionaires already.

For those who choose to live frugally and invest wisely becoming a millionaire towards the end of their life is not as difficult as it might seem.

True.

It might be easier if one starts with a massive inheritance, don't you think?

Can you name any billionaires who worked for $2 @ hour, which is what Miss Piggy wants to pay her workers?

Again we are not looking into the morality of the person whom stated this Instead we look at a few sentences that she spoke. Her words are fairly accurate. If one strives and works towards success then they do have the possibillity of becoming more then they are. Billion dollar empires all started somewhere. people who bust their backside and form multi million dollar company's do have children.. . who inherit thier said empire. It is the very embodiment of the American dream , to one day build a life that you can pass on to your children. No one cannot become a Billionaire by working as a waiter.. but a waiter who uses his money to put himself threw school invests wisely and apply's the lessons his schooling ha taught him to everyday life has a significant chance of one day drawing that sort of income... No not every one is going to be rich.. but instead of wining and blaming the so called one percent for you not sitting among them well that thinking is similar to many people who retired from a Dead End job that never strove for more.

Can you repost that in English?

( Is that better for you?)
