Doug Wilder, slams Biden for 'chains' remark

Wilder, a Democrat and a grandson of slaves, echoed indignant Republican claims that Biden's remarks before a largely black crowd in Danville, Va., brought racism into the presidential race.

In railing against Republican efforts to undo Obama administration regulations reining in Wall Street after the 2008 stock market meltdown, Biden said the GOP wants to "unchain Wall Street."

Then, Biden added, "they're going to put y'all back in chains."

Wilder said he felt Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would have made a better Obama running mate and called on Biden to "cool it, back up" and admit that he was wrong.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Thursday said that the flap over Vice President Joe Biden’s recent comments concerning Republicans putting people “back in chains” was “not helpful and a distraction from President Barack Obama’s message.”


“What I do know is, just address it forthrightly as overblown rhetoric that was not helpful and a distraction from President Barack Obama’s message,” Jackson said in an interview with POLITICO. “If the president has to reprimand him, that becomes a big issue, if he ignores it, that becomes a big issue. So we just make certain in these exchanges that none of the candidates use language that’s distracting from jobs, justice, education, health care and peace.”

Biden's statement was accurate. The GOP would like to drag us all back to what they consider the 'good old days', prior to the Civil Rights movement.

Absolutely. Although it may have offended some, many blacks understand what he meant.

At least he didn't call hispanics anchor babies like Ryan did last year.

Not everyone dumb enough to call themselves 'republican' is a racist, but the GOP makes room for racists and includes their shitty ideas into their party platform. That they don't rebuke the racist scum in their tent is why the entire party has a black eye. They can change that any time they want.
