Hello all,
These are my final thoughts from over 12 years of discussing politics on various boards including Politics.com, FullPolitics.com, and JustPlainPolitics.com. I used to be a regular poster, actually a quite religious poster on political boards. But in the last I would say 5 years, I have been going on the boards less and less frequently and now maybe once or twice a year.
I've always understood politics to be about "winners" and "losers", a form of verbal warfare, where people can settle their differences without actual violence. You know, I regularly engaged in this activity, and I was quite good at it, but the end result is nothing ever gets resolved. I had hoped that politics would lead to a more civil discourse where the collective wisdom of the people will be used to further benefit the people governed under the political system. This in every case, has not happened, and frankly, I don't think it will ever happen. Why is that? Well I believe that humans are ingrained with a selfish gene as well as a conflict gene so it is in the human nature to have conflicts. This can only be solved by the Big Man upstairs.
Political boards, like high schools, are full of creatures of different tastes, colours, and ideals. The only difference is that in a real high school the teachers and principals can tell you to shut the fuck up, whereas on political boards, there are only idle threats. This just leads to petty lunch time food fights, which while fun, gets old over time.
I have met some truly worthy adversaries on the boards, but mostly just a bunch of school yard punks/ keyboard warriors. I am no longer a kid, anymore, although my ideals and beliefs remain true to this day.
I wish everybody on this board success in their life, and I just want to remind people to not judge others unless you have walked in their shoes. To all those who I have offended, well you kinda deserved it....
To all the witty and satirical posters on here, I say BRAVO.
You will not see the CanadianKid anymore on this political board or any board from this day forward.
I exit this arena, Stage Left.
Good night and Good luck.
CK
