On Tuesday, the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA released an ad blaming Mitt Romney for the death of a woman whose husband worked at a steel plant that closed years after Romney left Bain Capital.
“Understands,” Business Insider reported, "features Joe Soptic, who was laid off from the plant and lost health benefits. The ad says that he later found part-time work, but his wife developed a stage-four cancer (not specified further) and 'there was nothing they could do.'"
"When Mitt Romney and Bain closed the plant, I lost my healthcare, and my family lost their healthcare. And a short time after that my wife became ill," Soptic says in the ad.
According to the Kansas City Business Journal, Bain bought the plant in 1993. The plant closed in 2001, two years after Romney left to run the Olympics.
The ad continues:
I don’t know how long she was sick and I think maybe she didn’t say anything because she knew that we couldn’t afford the insurance, and then one day she became ill and I took her up to the Jackson County Hospital and admitted her for pneumonia and that’s when they found the cancer and by then it was stage four. It was, there was nothing they could do for her.
"And she passed away in 22 days," Soptic said.
"I do not think Mitt Romney realizes what he’s done to anyone, and furthermore I do not think Mitt Romney is concerned," he added.
Politico noted that Soptic's wife "died in 2006," five years after the plant closed, and seven years after Romney left Bain.
But the ad wants viewers to believe it was all Romney's fault.
Politico's Alexander Burns said he "asked Priorities USA strategist Bill Burton to explain the connection between Romney, Bain and a cancer fatality that happened near the end of Romney’s tenure as governor of Massachusetts."
“We’re illustrating how long it took for communities and individuals to recover from the closing of these businesses,” Burton said. “Families and individuals had to find new jobs, new sources of health insurance and a way to make up for the pensions they lost. Mitt Romney has had an enduring impact on the lives of thousands of men and women and for many of them, that impact has been devastating.”
But that's not what the ad says.

Okay..... By this very standard, Obma is now directly responsible for every death in every family who has lost a job since he became president. If anyone has died, even indirectly as a result of governmental policy, Obama is 100% responsible for that. If people died as a result of the FDA withholding some medication from the public, it is Obama's fault. Any suffering or misery realized as a result of government mandates and regulations, it's Obama's fault. If cars are designed to meet CAFE standards cause people to die in car wrecks, it is Obama's fault. If you have been screwed in any way by the government, it is OBAMA's fault. The idiots who ran this ad set the standard, thank them for it!
