"Science" textbook for fundamentalist homeschoolers

If I could thank this post a dozen times, I would. Dixie does not care about evidence or reality. He just likes arguing for the sake of arguing, even when it makes him look like a moron.

I've noticed! His incessant, insufferably-boring ramble is like a lingering, noxious fart.

No I agree with you there Dixie. I saw nothing intrinsically wrong with that statement in the OP and could not criticise their teaching of science based on one page about electricity being posted out of context. Not exactly what I would consider being fair minded.
In which case I'd suggest you go to the link and read the entire article.

I am perfectly FINE with evidence and reality. What I am not fine with, is lying and deception. I am also not fine with using science to try and support your No-God Theory. You haven't proven that, you can't prove it, and you never will. So you want to run around proclaiming science is 'right' about this and that, but science never said it was 'right' about anything. Science is inconclusive, it doesn't conclude things. It posits a theory, an educated guess, and it bases these on observation and falsification, and repeated outcomes, etc. YOU make determinations based on that, science does not.

Now... ME pointing that out to you, does not make me a moron. I am sorry if you are so bigoted in your hate for religion, that you must hurl insults at me, but I think it's important to note who is adhering to scientific principle and the scientific method, and who is tossing it out the window so they can use science to further an agenda? I've simply said that science is not conclusive on many things, like why electricity exists, or gravity for that matter. Why do the elements in the universe react and inter-react the way they do? Mott is the science geek guy here, get him to explain this to you, he understood what I said.

Or do you think Mott's a moron too? ...Mr. Hollow Earth With Gnomes Inside!

Then go enroll yourself in a college-level Physical Anthropology course, you stupid fucking rube. Your hair-splitting bullshit has contributed NOTHING constructive to the actual topic of the thread, but then, derailing and deflection was your primary goal, anyway. Right rube?
Nice rant by the way! :)

Careful there, ekg... you're going to have a heart attack! Obviously the propagandist was brilliant in his work, because you have bought it. No one is excusing anything, no one is defending stupid. We're talking about a Christian school science book, that some godless schmuck ripped a page from, and concocted a clever smear piece from, and here you are like a gullible little puppy to lap it all up. No we're not backwoods bush people, we're apparently gullible dolts who will buy whatever some turdhead propagandist spews out, because it's easier for us to bash God than accept people believing differently than us.

this..

'you can't really tell us why electricity exists, can you? You can explain how it works, you can explain what causes it, but you can't tell us where it came from or why?"

is defending the stupid.. So I guess that makes you the 'propagandist' who concocted a clever smear piece? that riled me up since I loathe the propagation willful ignorance..

(out of order on purpose)

Now on the the question of MY GOD. I haven't mentioned anything about my personal religious beliefs here, you assume I must be a Christian, because I am not joining in on the Christian Hatefest. But I am more like a Spiritual Mercenary here. I believe in a Spiritual God, but it's more of an energy source than something with humanistic attribute. Personally, I believe this entity created everything in the universe, including your perceptions and experiences in the thing you call life. I don't care if we teach that to kids in school, I think it's important information for people to know. I would love to see schools teach comparative religious studies class, where all kinds of spiritual beliefs are studied. But you don't see me posting threads about it, or compiling propaganda to smear public education because they don't allow it. That's because of my POLITICAL philosophy, which is completely different from my spiritual one. I understand spiritual faith is a touchy subject, especially to school kids, and it is indeed the job of the church. But teaching that people have difference of opinion regarding the origins of life, is not teaching spiritual faith, it is acknowledgment of truth. In education, I always err on the side of truth.

I believe God put all the ingredients out there said "Let's see what happens".. and lo and be hold...planets, solar systems, gravity and evolution happened..and not just here.. but all over.. and I don't want that taught in school... School isn't church.. teaching 'comparative religion' is not the same as teaching "the moon is 10,000 years old. Dinosaurs and man lived together in peace and harmony 6,000 years ago" and it's very disingenuous for you to throw that in there as a comparison....

The Republican party did not write this science book, again, it is a Christian school book, for Christians in Christian school. What you see me defending here, is the TRUTH, against a backdrop of hateful anti-religious bullshit. It's important for reasonable people to remember, this is a 4th grade science book, not a senior high school book. I guarantee you, I can go to ANY 4th grade science book, and find a single page to ridicule and mock, and I bet you it would be just as stupid sounding as anything you've presented here. Why? Because, in 4th grade, you are fucking illiterate of science! First through third grade, you learned to read and write, didn't study much science, because counting, reading and writing, are more important fundamentals. So we are seeing the first glimpse a student in a Christian school is getting of science. And again, we're given a single page to evaluate a whole book. But that's not a problem for a genius like you, right? Wye, you can read one page, and automatically know everything about the whole entire book, because you are just that fucking smart, right?

you're defending handicapping children in the year 2012 in a tech world that will overpower them and leave them behind in a fucking second.. and smile while buzzing by. and your reasons are inexcusable.. It has nothing to do with 'faith' or 'religion' those are just conservative buzz words and nothing more.. how do I know this?

None of this has to do with our failing public education system. Christian schools are not responsible for that. In fact, when we look at grades and test scores, faith-based schools beat the living dog crap out of public schools. What? The propagandist didn't tell you that? Well, he also didn't tell you that every graduating senior in America has to take a test and pass it, in order to get a diploma. Seems like something this logical would have been mentioned. It doesn't matter if you used this book in 4th grade and went to Christian school, or another book in public school where the mention of God is forbidden, you still have to pass a basic aptitude test, including stuff on science, in order to graduate high school in America. Surely, you are smart enough to get that?

What's fucked up, is all the problems in the world, and you are focused on trying to tell people how they can worship in America. Why not stay the fuck out of the Christian schools business, and let them educate their children as they please, and you can do the same? Why do you feel compelled to stick your nose where it doesn't belong? You don't mind telling traditionalists to fuck off and let you do as you please, but you want to meddle in the affairs of Christians educating their own? Do you even comprehend how fucked up that is?

right there sweetheart..more on that in a minute..

we're not talking about 'christian' schools.. I've known catholic and Jewish schools that are drop dead fucking awesome.. we're, in this thread, talking about fundamentalist extremism.. how very ludicrous to try and connect fuck-crazy fundamentalists to normal Christianity..That's like thinking all Muslims are the same..which brings us to that minute.

you're trying to chastise me because you just want ppl to worship as they want.. HA! I had no idea you were so extremely liberal.. I mean, hell if I knew you were all about letting sharia law be taught in your local school.. or that Jesus was a fraud..as our Jewish friends believe.. I might have had a different opinion of you..But frankly, I think you're only a proponent of not meddling in religion when it comes to Christians.. but when it's Muslims,Hindus,Scientologists... well you're all about getting up in their shit and forcing them to not only be a part of your religion, by learning it in their classrooms... but you want to limit your kids exposure to theirs in every way possible..

altho I could be wrong.. you could really feel that we should also teach about how75,00,000 years ago, Xenu headed the Galactic Federation, and was ousted and banished to a barren planet.. But I don't think I'm wrong at all... I think you do want to meddle in in the affairs of other religions and what they teach.. and can't even remotely comprehend how fucked up that is...

Here's my philosophy when it comes to education... err on the side of TOO MUCH! I'd rather teach them EVERYTHING than to filter out the things this group or that group don't want people to know, that's just my personal opinion on the matter, you can refute me if you like. I don't see any problem with teaching creation theory as one of the theories people believe, and you know what else, jackboot? I don't even mind teaching them that for decades, secular anti-religious nitwits tried to prevent us from teaching you that people have a difference of opinion when it comes to origin of life!

awesome.. so let's get together and demand Wicca be taught in 1st-5th grade... and maybe Taoism..but not until they're older..because that's shit'll blow their little minds..

or I know.. we could leave the religious education to the church of persons choice and the academics to the school.. Because as it's been pointed out to you, Christian aren't all extreme fundamentalists who believe the world is 6000 years old, Taoist believe something all together different and don't get me started on the Missouri Jesus.. or the Branch Davidians... Your average parent in this country would stroke out if little Billy came home talking about he learned there is no heaven because we're all just reincarnated and if he's not good he'll be a bug in his next life.. and they'd have every right to..because that stuff isn't for the classroom.. it's for bible study.

^Pearls before swine...

but a great read for the rest of us! :D

N0o, your insinuation is that parents would pull their children out of public schools and put them in a better education. Only retards would say "hmmm this school is good and I can't find one better but damnit I'm pullin my kids anyways!"

if the school is bad, why not fix it other ways instead of making it worse by taking their funding.. ? if a school is good, but a parents opts for the private school anyway, it reduced the funding for that public school turning it into one that can't afford new books or maintenance.. the next year they get a little worse, so more vouchers and less funding.. now they're dumping teachers..

yes, there are enough parents around who don't like public education or don't like their 'home' school and would jump at the op to send their kid to the private one for stupid reasons.. which in turn, hurts the good school..

this..

'you can't really tell us why electricity exists, can you? You can explain how it works, you can explain what causes it, but you can't tell us where it came from or why?"

How the HELL is THAT defending the stupid? It is an accurate question! You've not answered it!

I believe God put all the ingredients out there said "Let's see what happens".. and lo and be hold...planets, solar systems, gravity and evolution happened..and not just here.. but all over.. and I don't want that taught in school... Again, it's not up to YOU to determine how CHRISTIANS educate their children. How many times does this need to be pointed out to you?

No one that I am aware of, wants CHURCH taught in school! No one has proposed that! You don't even know if the Christian schools are teaching the moon is 10,000 years old and dinosaurs and man lived together, that wasn't on the pages in the OP. This is all shit you conjured up to accuse, when you have NO BASIS for the accusation. It's what makes you a liar and a dishonest person to try and debate. Your bigoted mind is made up, and you will continue to gin up lie after lie to support it, you don't fucking care.

we're not talking about 'christian' schools..

NO WE'RE NOT in a thread talking about fundamental extremism! We are discussing a Christian school's science book. PAY ATTENTION!

I've not tried to connect anything, you brought up the crazy talk, are you now going to try and attribute YOUR crazy talk to ME? WTF?

you're trying to chastise me because you just want ppl to worship as they want.. HA! I had no idea you were so extremely liberal.. YES, I want people's right to religious expression protected. I want YOU to leave Christians to hell alone, and let them teach their children as they see fit. And I want you to do the same for Muslims, Jews, Wiccans, and every goddamn body else, because you really have no business sticking your nose in it.

Again, I don't favor religious dogma being taught in classrooms. I don't see the problem with teaching that science is inconclusive on origin of life, and there are various theories about it. That is not religious indoctrination, that is not teaching crazy wacko religious shit, that is just stating a fact of life that every student should know, if properly educated. Whether you teach them this in the class or not, they are going to know that some people believe different things on origin, you aren't shielding them from this information by not teaching it.

BUT THE THREAD TOPIC IS ABOUT CHRISTIAN SCHOOL SCIENCE BOOKS, not public schools!

I am perfectly FINE with evidence and reality. What I am not fine with, is lying and deception. I am also not fine with using science to try and support your No-God Theory. Dixie, I have never said that I could disprove god, or attempted to do that. Science does not define god. Science neither proves nor disproves its existence. The reason I do not believe in god is because there is no evidence to support its existence.

Dixie, I have never said that I could disprove god, or attempted to do that. Science does not define god. Science neither proves nor disproves its existence. The reason I do not believe in god is because there is no evidence to support its existence.

That's the whole point, you need some degree of faith to believe any evidence is evidence. Unless you believe in the evidence, it isn't evidence to you. Scientific evidence also requires faith, if you are to draw conclusions based upon it. There is no other rational way to 'believe' science. Science doesn't define God, and can't prove or disprove God, or at least... it can't do so at this time. But science doesn't prove or disprove anything, really, when you think about it. Science simply predicts what is likely or unlikely. WE hold the faith in science, it doesn't mandate that we do so. In fact, the very principles of science are to continue asking questions, never to 'conclude' anything.

Think about your rationale for a moment... You don't believe in a non-physical, spiritual entity, because there is no physical scientific proof to support it. However, you do believe in thought and imagination, dreams and emotions like Love... things that have ZERO physical scientific evidence to support their existence.
