Not at all. They provide the bulk of our jobs. But where do those people come from? I would venture to say, the majority are retired from some other line of work, where they saved and scraped and realized their dream of owning their own business. They didn't just open their Obama check one day, and decide to run open a business... that's not what went down.

Talking of jobs, just how many of the products that somewhere like Staples sells are made in the US? Apart from paper and a few other items, I would suggest precious little.

I guess Dicksee never heard of the SBA. As far as his claim that most small business owners are retired, I find that hard to believe.

More like young to middle age. Ask Bill Gates.

You are seriously deluded, can you tell me just how many Goldman Sachs, Lehman Bros, AIG, JP Morgan and Bear Stearns directors have been banged up?

What fucking difference does it make if they weren't doing something illegal? How many Goldman-Sachs and Lehman Bros do you see out there investing billions into new business to create jobs and stimulate the economy? Not fucking many, because again, capitalists are not going to invest in an anti-capitalist climate. If businesses go belly-up and the government bails them out, is that their fault? NO! They did nothing wrong.

Again, what fucking difference does it make if Staples is making a profit and customers are satisfied? No one is breaking any laws, nothing illegal is happening! Capitalists are making money! This has to happen in order for the economy to prosper, you understand that, right?

Not true, dicklicker. For an economy to fully prosper you have to have an expanding middle class. This has not been the case since the early days of the Reagan administration. The rich getting richer on the backs of the poor and middle classes suffering is only a short time feel good for the millionaires. Time and further abuses by them will certainly be the downfall of this most precious nation.

^ How predatory capitalists, disaster capitalists, and 'free market' Friedman worshipers justify the pillage and plunder that brings whole economies to their knees and destroys the working class.

VC's may indeed serve a purpose in the economy. That isn't the issue.

At issue, as I've posted in EVERY thread about Bain/Romney, is that Mittens offered his tenure at Bain as proof of his ability to run an economy, and create jobs.

Nothing could be further from the truth, which is now becoming more evident.

If he had nothing to do with any decisions that were made after '99, he still profited from outsourcing, and predation.

AND, Bain profited nicely from govt. programs that gave vast sums of money to the companies Bain took over.

Another issue Romney now rails against.

He should've kept his mouth shut about his shady past.

Then what should happen to those failing companies?

The salient point that I'm trying to make, not very well it seems, is that many of these private equity companies are only interested in short term profit and pimping up the companies enough to resell for a huge profit. Very few are truly interested in turning the companies around and saving jobs, if that happens then it is in spite of not because of their intervention. In the olden days, they used to be called asset strippers but vulture capitalists is just as good a name. I am not saying that all of them are like that but I would submit that the majority are.

So the meme seems to be

Wealth = evil

Failing = good

You want to hang your hat on that?

More like greed = wealth.

I did, however, note your disdain for those who aren't wealthy by calling them failures. How very, very shallow of you.

One can be poor or middle class and successful, ya know. It's not always about money.

Tom, you and the rest of the pinheads can groan my comments all you like, it's too bad you can't debate this.

When the fuck did we wake up in a world where making money was wrong? At what point in your flawed thinking, did you decide money was evil and it's best to support ideas designed to PREVENT the making of money? Because this is where you need to go back and 're-think' your position. You've worked yourselves into a jealous froth over people who have more than you, and somehow, you seem to think the ONLY recourse you have, is to destroy what they have. What you do in the process is destroy man's ability and motivation to imagine and create. Once that is successful, your civilization is doomed to collapse, it's only a matter of time. We've watched this scenario play out in history time and time again, and it always fails. Socialist systems are no better than capitalism. They convince you they are, but every Socialist system that has ever been devised, eventually corrupts itself from the inside out.

Now, why do we see such 'interest' in this from people who don't live in the US? Why are Brits and Canadians leading this crusade? Because they have embraced this Socialist idiocy, and it's not working, their governments are going broke, things aren't going well out there on the world stage, and unbridled American capitalism is kicking your ass up one side and down the other, so you feel you MUST get rid of this threat, if your idea is ever to work... well guess what? IT STILL WON'T!

What you create is a system where the "Evil 1%" still exist, only now, instead of being capitalists, which you can somewhat regulate, monitor, and control through taxes and regulation, it's the people who control all the political power, who you have absolutely no control over, and then you are REALLY screwed.

If I had said what you stated then you might have a point but I didn't. I have a lot of time for say management buyouts where the people already in the company take over the running. I was specifically railing against vulture capitalist companies whose only real purpose is to descend on companies which they see as ripe for the picking and then proceed to gut them, sack many staff and then sell them on for a massive profit.
