Raise The Minimum Wage!

Both denote a negative outcome do they not? Is this the time to be meddling with things that are a net negative to the economy?

Can you prove it would be a net negative? Large corps are litterally sitting on billions in cash. IMHO, large corps likely hire most minimum wage workers (Wallmart, etc.)
Is it possible that the corps getting off some of that money to those who spend every penny could help the economy more that hurt it?

Can you prove it would be a net negative?

Well, I already did that once...If you didn't see it, you'll have to go back and find it..

Large corps are litterally sitting on billions in cash.

Why is that do you think?

My son works for Walmart while he goes to collage, and I can assure you that at least in his circumstance he was never working for minimum wage....

Is it possible that the corps getting off some of that money to those who spend every penny could help the economy more that hurt it?

Let me ask you Rune, in all seriousness, would you give up any of your savings in these times, to just give it to those that have less than you do?

Couldn't you just say yes or no? These multiple choice quizzes are so much work!

Can we agree on a standard of proof? Me or you saying something is not proof. Proof is like courtroom evidence, hearsay doesn't count.
Neither do links from Fox News.

Why is that do you think?

Short answer, because they can. The point is that they can clearly afford a slight increase in overhead. Meanwhile they are losing sales.

In New England, chain store pay minimum AND will not give 40 hours/week to avoid having to pay benefits.

Are you kidding? I gave up most of my savings helping the less fortunate in my community. That is what a christian does. Admittedly, I had a lot more opportunities than most others.

Ahhh but there is a WORLD of difference between "not good" and "damaging"...that you stubbornly refuse to acknowledge this only proves Rune's point about your argument.

Te esteemed loser Paul Krugman thinks inflation is just swell, but he is a complete idiot

It is horrible for savers. It is great for the first person to touch the dollar, but not so much for the last.

Savers are getting killed by OWEdummy and the Fed, but they are too stupid/ignorant to realize it.

Inflation is a hidden tax.

Just a request if you could...Could you please post outside the existing quote box with multiple responses please, it makes it a real pain responding when I have to copy and past every thing you type because I can't just hit reply with quote and get it all...Thanks.

I got news for ya, everyones sales are down, and not because they won't pay more either. But because people are scared to death that Obama, and Giethner is turning us into the Weimar Republic.

Lane notes that many companies were unable to get credit during the last financial crisis, and they're trying to be more prudent about how they spend money now.

"So I think one of the reasons that is contributing to many companies holding onto cash would be the very vivid memories of the severity of the downturn that commenced in mid-2008," he says.

Companies can borrow money very cheaply right now, so instead of paying off their debts, they can sit on cash as long as possible. But there's a more basic reason companies are hoarding money: The U.S. economy simply isn't growing enough.

The labor market is weak, which hampers consumption, notes Charles Biderman, chief executive officer of the research firm TrimTabs. "So without growing income, where's the money to buy more stuff?" he says. "Absent a change in demand, the fact that companies have all this cash, well, good for them. It's not going to help us."

And with the economy limping along, companies are simply reluctant to invest and hire.

"The bottom line is that a large number of very successful U.S. companies are on a wait-and-see mode with the U.S. economy in particular," says Anant Sundaram, who teaches at Dartmouth's Tuck School of Business.

These companies are scared, and the Obama administration isn't doing a damned thing that would alleviate those fears. In fact some say he's making them worse.

True, there is a lot of that especially in the large box stores. Bottom line is though, people are free to work where ever they want. I am always on my son, to start thinking about getting into BMW, or Michelin here...

Are you kidding? I gave up most of my savings helping the less fortunate in my community. That is what a christian does. Admittedly, I had a lot more opportunities than most others.

Fantastic. I am heartened to hear that you give to charity. However, most liberals are among the stingiest in that respect. And in today's economy, it is ever harder to part with savings, especially when Obama want's to take away the tax incentive to do so.

Inflation is imminent. When a country prints so much money with no tangible backing, then uses it to cover debt, there is only one way to claw that funny money back in....Inflation.

Do you have anything to add to this thread other than your incessant trolling?

You are quite the boring little troll.

Ah... Right on cue! Expect two days of this sort of short 'back-and-forth' dialogue of personal jabs, so Runed can hide all the posts that demonstrate what an idiot he is, and how wrong he has been, (think of a cat in a litter box, covering his poop....) and then we'll see him again proclaim that he was brilliantly correct and no one has refuted him. Apparently Runed believes, when the posts start a new page, the old posts go away or something. One day he might discover that people can actually go back and read the other pages, all the way back to the start of the thread.

No, I can't, that's why I do it this way. If you are willing to instuct me, I am willing to attempt it.

I didn't post from Fox News. You didn't see it did you?

No, that's why I asked. Would you mind posting the post #?

Opinion, not based on fact. Sales were down when Bush was president. Lack of money is the main reason consumers are not spending.

Try as he might, Obama can not force banks to extend credit, even though they promised to when Bush enacted the TARP.
Gun sales seem to be up under Obama.

People are only free to work elsewhere if there are jobs elsewhere.

Another myth. Check factchecker.org for the truth on that.

I suppose in your mind, there are no personal jabs aimed at me in this post? While it is true that I am brilliant, I am pretty sure I have not stated so in this thread, previous to this post. Would you mind indicating where I said this, or was this just another of your lies?
Furthermore, why don't you point out where you refuted me with anything other than your verbiage? Even Superfreak the almighty was not able to come up with a single proof so far.

None of our money has tangible backing...not just the funds printed recently.

Yes, even SF was able to cobble together enough common sense to refute your points. THAT should be an indicator of how much trouble you are in.

My "verbiage" is all that is needed to answer your query, because it only involves common sense. Increasing the MW will cause prices of goods and services to increase and jobs to be lost, because that is the only way it can be paid for, since we don't have magic money trees. The proof is what has happened every time we've raised the MW over the past 40 years, and the fact that the same exact problem still remains today.

Dix, if it has happened so often, you should have no trouble finding some articles which prove it.

Oh, and sorry, but as usually happens with SF, he left without responding to my last post.

I don't need a liberal op-ed piece on the Internet to prove stuff, because I have a functioning brain.

The "proof" is self-evident. We still have the same problem, after 40 years of MW and raising it periodically.

You are still whining about the social injustice, and the disparity between rich and poor, and how this HAS to be done to help the poor... but it never works.

We raise it, prices increase, and we end up back in the very same boat, and with you whining again for another increase that won't work. We've done this for 40 years now, without satisfactory results. And we can do it for another 40 years, and I predict we still won't fix the problem because we are chasing our tails.

More lies...it is not about fixing a problem, it is about alleviating very real suffering, much of it endured by children

Well too bad you have nothing to show that what I said was a lie, ain't it?

And no matter what it's "about" ....it won't alleviate anything, and we already know this, because we've been trying for 40 years with no success.

Suffering is not helped... people make an extra $20 a week, but the cost of EVERYTHING rises. So in the end, the situation remains exactly the same, if not worse than before. You are creating MORE suffering by continuing to follow a policy that has simply failed to do what you keep claiming it will.

Well too bad you have nothing to show that what I said was a lie, ain't it?

Really? Then I guess you will have no problem showing where I said these things you claimed I said...

You are still whining about the social injustice, and the disparity between rich and poor, and how this HAS to be done to help the poor... but it never works.
