"This is gonna be really everybody working together," says Gov. Gary R. Herbert, a Republican.

Herbert empowered the state's top forests official to restrict firearms near cities and towns...

"Our biggest problem is people being foolish and not using common sense," Herbert lamented.

Gun advocacy groups say banning weapons is a step too far.

Do you think all guns should be illegal? And no, I'm not claiming that you said you do (which you're certain to ask). I just want a straight 'yes' or 'no' answer for once.

Fireworks and Guns starting fires. We should ban them both. BUT, here in New Mexico we just had two HUGE fires in the Gila and Lincoln National forests. Both were started by ...LIGHTNING! That is why I am here to advocate the banning of lightning. Here in the American Southwest, 60% to 70% of forest fires are ignited by lightning. Granted, it was probably lightning that first gave fire to man, but it's time has come and so government should step in and ban lightning. Not only does it start fires, but according to the National Weather Service, during the past 30 years (1979-2008) lightning killed an average of 58 people each year. Documented injuries average about 300 per year. This dangerous natural phenomenon must be brought to an end.

THIS!!!

so many things that were so necessary during the founders time and era are just not needed anymore. We've got this huge government that can give us what we need and provide for us where we didn't have such things 200+ years ago. we need to nominate more judges that will stop interpreting the constitution and make the hard decisions for us that we don't want to make for ourselves anymore. It's time to move to the law and order state that's necessary for our safety and security. that is how we remain free.

Why don't you ask Johnson to make the "lightning ban" the centerpiece of his pathetic, doomed campaign?

You should read the Constitution sometime.
