Rupert Murdoch has branded Scientology 'creepy, weird and evil' in the wake of the Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes split.
The media mogul caused a storm on Twitter with his remarks, which pulled no punches over his opinions on the religion, of which Cruise is its most high-profile follower.
“Scientology back in news. Very weird cult, but big, big money involved with Tom Cruise either number two or three in hierarchy,” he said, after hearing the news of the split.

“Watch Katie Holmes and Scientology story develop. Something creepy, maybe even evil, about these people.”
He later replied to 'attacks' made on him after making the comments.
“Since Scientology tweet hundreds of attacks. Expect they will increase and get worse and maybe threatening. Still stick to my story.”
He was also asked by followers his thoughts on Mormonism, and added: “Mormonism a mystery to me, but Mormons certainly not evil.”
It's claimed that Cruise's devotion to the religion will become the centre of the couple's divorce battle.
“There is no way her advisers will not be putting Scientology at the very core of this divorce,” legal expert Mike Paul told the Daily Mail.
“The only possible reason for Katie to push for [custody] is that she fears for the emotional wellbeing of her daughter. Suri is at an age where she will be becoming more and more involved with the church and Katie clearly wants to make the break before her daughter is dragged into Scientology.”

I don't see that much difference between them and Mormons, they are both creepy.

He is also one of the few people who is not scared to voice his opinion. Most of the media seems to be terrified of Scientology.

I know nothing about scientology except that in the UK it started - or there was some sort of head office - in the biblically named East Grinstead and as such I have sort of equated it with the College of Oneupmanship, founded of course by the great Stephen Potter.
They had a place on Deansgate in Manchester several years ago. But it seems as good an example as any how we allow ourselves to be manipulated by, on the one hand Scientologists, who say thay are good and the media, who say they are bad.
The name of the founder doesn't really give much faith of the movement as a religion. Jesus, Mohammed, Confucious and Ron!
I do not like this Tom Cruise chap, not that I have anything against those of stunted growth, I just think he is a poor actor and he is just too .... clean! I would not follow him into a bar let alone a religion.

He is also one of the few people who is not scared to voice his opinion. Most of the media seems to be terrified of Scientology.

They have fast response teams that are brutal, they use any means necessary to destroy any perceived attack on the religion. Former members tell some astounding stories.

Here's a blog by a former scientologist... the stories may not be astounding there, but it is a good place to learn some stuff about the "church". http://askthescientologist.blogspot.com/

That person believes that the "church" is dying. The "secrets" are known.

We're all "Wogs"... The "Flags" like Cruise are ready to do anything to defend the power of the "church".

Not just creepy as hell but abusive, IMO. Read the part about being cut off from family and friends, and being followed 24/7 by members of the sect. When that happens to normal people, they go to court and get a restraining order.

"It seems like most of the media has turned the Katie Holmes-Tom Cruise story into one of Scientology being the cause of the divorce, particularly as the cult–as it now called by Rupert Murdoch–affects six year old Suri. But if Cruise insists publicly that Suri be raised as Scientologist, and Katie objects, the group’s leader David Miscavige may tell Cruise to let it go. Why? Holmes, more than anyone, could shine a glaring light on the inner workings of the sect. Once the divorce really gets going, and affidavits are filed, depositions are taken, things could get nasty for the secretive group.

For one thing, Holmes could finally describe what happened when she met Cruise in April 2005, where she was for an unexplained 16 days before surfacing in Rome with him and announcing she was in love. That was on April 27, 2005. Prior to approximately April 12th, Holmes didn’t know Cruise. Her reps sent her to L.A. for a meeting with him about “Mission Impossible 3″ that may have taken place at the Scientology Centre in Hollywood.
From then on, Holmes cut off her family and friends. When she finally spoke, she was– as I reported then exclusively–monitored closely by Scientologist Jessica Feshbach Rodriguez, whose family are heavy Scientology donors. Feshbach even spoke for Holmes during a magazine interview that summer. For most of the time until they married in November 2006, Holmes was never alone without someone from Scientology. But all of her prior friends–including actress Rebecca Gayheart, and her ex castmates from “Dawson’s Creek”–were banished."
