America Is Not the Greatest Country In the World!!!

He says America is not the greatest country in the world anymore which means America was the greatest country in the world at some previous point. When was that point?

It was written by Aaron Sorkin and he made quite a stir in an interview this week where he said it was greatest during the 1940's. You know, when white male hegemony went unchallenged, women had no rights and blacks were beaten to death for looking at a white woman, or raped at will by white males. So you know, that was an awesome time for a lot of people.

He then topped off his prick rant by calling the woman who was interviewing him for a newspaper an "internet girl" and telling her it wouldn't kill her to read a newspaper once in a while, apparently completely unaware she writes for one.

I never liked him, and I always picked this up about him, but even I didn't know just how big of an entitled prick he is.

Seriously! I so liked the show, now I will see it in a new light.

He asked "When were we the greatest?" He didn't ask "When were we perfect?"

It's a stupid fucking question. There is no such thing as "The Greatest Nation". We have no innate supriority over any nation or groups of people or cultures. What conceit! What arrogance!

We are a great nation and we strive, warts, flaws and all, to do better and to strive towards greatness in the light we have to see that greatness but we are not the greatest nation and we have never been because there is no such thing. Like any other group of humans we have our flaws and our failings and we should recognize our flaws and our failings and embrace them and see them for what they are because the day we stop doing that is the day we stop growing as a people and to better ourselves as a nation.

On that day we stop being great.

God will smite thee, first there was Israel and now the USA, don't you read these forums? ;)

I am always amazed at those who continue to rant that we are the greatest nation in the world.

Look at where we rank in terms of education, infant mortality, average income, Healthcare ect ect, and you see we are not even close to the top.

The USA ranks #1 in 3 categories I know of. Percentage of population incarcerated, percentage of population who believe angels are literally real, and money spent on defense. Other than those, we are usually not in the top 10.

And as far as money spent on defense, we are ranked #1 by a WIDE margin.

We're number 1, we're number 1

How many angels on a pinhead?

Five minutes ago, that was my favorite new show. Thanks for taking that away from me Darla.

Careful, you're gonna get dogged by the American exceptionalists.

What makes the US the greatest country is our tradition of individualism, entrepreneurship, and personal responsibility. Unfortunately, these traditions are precisely what Barack Obama and many other liberals despise.

Wow, you are just hilarious this week.

The rightwingers have fought against individualism, entrepreneurship and personal responsibility too. To claim otherwise is insane.

It was the point when we were too naive to demand the truth. It was the time of Superman and Marvel comics, of Road films and Elvis, of Ike and the war when we believed you were our saviours. It was the time of green fields far away, of TVs and fridges when we had bombsites. It was the time we believed the tailors who made the emporers clothes. That is when America was the greatest country.

Absolute bollocks

Brent you need to get your head out of your ass and your ass out of whatever town you live in and go see the world. Hell go see the US first but the point of fact is you simply don't know what the hell you are talking about. There are about 175 nations on the planet who's citizens value those traits as much as we do.
