Huge Waste in US Healthcare

I was just listening on the car radio to Brent James of Intermountain earlier. It was fascinating some of the stuff he talked about, especially about the huge waste in the US private healthcare system. One example he cited was the practice of inducing babies at 38-39 weeks and the resultant increase in ICU admissions. They were able to save large sums just by stopping that practice alone. He also pointed out that healthcare spending is nearly a fifth of the national economy and is destined to bankrupt the US sooner or later, probably sooner!

Yet another example of why we need to address the costs of health care rather than simply trying to change how it is paid for.

To say nothing of the fact that 30 % of every healthcare dollar is waisted as admin costs and profits. Sickening.

Ah, the key word in this phrase, profits...why should anyone profit from someone being sick or dying, it is obscene to me.

The way healthcare is "paid for" is the problem.

In a profit-driven healthcare environment, it's profitable for people to be sick. Therefore, tactics such as this are used all the time. Why do you think preconditions, wellness checks such as mammograms and CAT scans, and preventive procedures aren't allowed? With unregulated care and the backing of the busiest lobbyists out there, along with the Republican Party, costs will continue to rise as long as we let them.

As long as there's a profit in sickness people will die. Ask the corporate bean counters.
