The U.S. Department of Justice is suing Florida to stop its push to remove what it says are ineligible voters from their rolls.

The federal agency on Monday announced its intention to sue the state.

It comes the same day that Florida announced it was suing a different federal agency over the purge.

Florida came up with a list that shows that as many as 182,000 registered voters may not be U.S. citizens.

Election supervisors have been asked to check a much smaller list.

The database relies on some outdated driver's license information, and a number of the people on the list of possible non-citizens have since proven their citizenship, according to the state's election department.

Florida is clearly violating the federal elections laws is they "adjust" the voter rolls within 90 days of an election.

It is sad that the feds have to sue FL to get them to comply with US law.

Which election in Florida is happening within 90 days?

I dont know but I'm pretty sure there is one. I saw this FL election official who was claiming he wasn't going to enforce the FL requirement to check the rolls because of some election that was going to happen within that 90 day period. He said it would violate the Florida state constitution. Now whether he was right or wrong I don't know but that is what he was saying.

simple enough solution.....simply issue an order that says anyone has a right to vote in any election that occurs less than 90 days after they are purged......

my guess? inertia stops the purges, dueling lawsuits might settle this one way or the other, but not prior to the election.

IMO, they had a time they could have done this, that they choose to do it now seems to point to an urge to make a political point rather than clear out the roles. They get to appear to be doing something but those "evil courts" stopped them.

This kind of play kind of makes me a little ill. There was plenty of time in the preceding year to actually deal with this, to wait until election season just smacks of political drama.
