They have grown much closer even since Nadar made that comment. I think that we would live in a different country today if Gore had taken the office he won. I don't believe we'll live in a different country if Romney wins instead of Obama...there is one exception and that is the Supreme Court. IT's enough for me to vote for Obama, but frankly, I don't think it's unrealistic to say these guys have grown very close.

Even if we assume for purposes of argument that Romney and Obama are the same, if Romney wins instead of Obama that will mean that in all likelihood we will have a Republican-controlled White House, Senate and House of Representatives. It is insane to think that what comes out of D.C. under those conditions would be the same as what would come of of D.C. if Obama wins.

Yeah - this. I actually don't think Nader was right in 2000, because Gore wouldn't have gone to Iraq (big difference, there), and obviously, he was infinitely more competent than Bush. But today, with everything Obama is doing and what he is about, there just isn't the same distinction.

Obviously, there will be different budgetary priorities & basic governing philiosophies, but corporations own both parties to enough of an extent that the end result in terms of policy won't be very distinguishable....

That's just plain nuts. Look at Paul Ryan's budget that passed the House, won the support of pretty much all of the Republicans in the Senate and Mitt Romney supported. Then look at Obama's budget. The idea that there is nothing to distinguish the two is worse than laughable.

And I'm not suggesting that the Democratic Party is a left-wing party. It isn't. It's a centrist party. But the Republicans have lurched so far to the right that the idea that the Republicans and Democrats are the same just isn't close to being true.

Obama's budget was a political budget - it was a campaign budget. It was never intended as a real budget, and he knew 100% that it would not come close to passing.

Is it? Do you believe that both Obama and Pelosi are on board for this grand bargain scheme DH? Because I don't like what I have been reading. And did you see Romney come out and say that obviously austerity would lead to a new recession?

Other than social issues, and you probably know how important those are to me (enough so that I will vote for Obama regardless), is the difference that big?

Is it a centrist position to cut Medicare, Medicaid, raise the retirement age on SS (and possibly other changes as well)?

How do we judge that? I see that as right of center.

That's a fair point, but I wonder, is Romney really going to sign a Ryan budget once in office? Is it even going to get out of the Senate in tact? Even a Republican Senate?

I don't know, someone said to me last night that they thought Romney would do well with women because he's handsome. This was a man who said this. He didn't mean it in a sexist way, and he did point out just how far Palin's looks brought her. So let's say it's true and a portion of the electorate are swayed by looks. I just don't see it. Is it me? I have never been moved by conventionally handsome men I guess. Don't people know anything about sexy? Hotness? He's not hot, sorry. He's about as sexy as Archie Bunker to me.

True turbo-lib woman would go down on an animal before a rightwinger.

I feel the same way, sexy, good looking goes deeper than looks.

True turbo-lib woman would go down on an animal before a rightwinger. lol....not out of character for 'em either.

I think the Dude is absolutely right.....true insight, Dude.....I'm not even surprised that you would think that thought, exactly when you did....

Rolling Stone had a pretty chilling article this past week on the donations of the mega-rich to Romney, and the things they expect in return (deregulation, tax shelters, the ability to pollute unfettered, etc.).

Now, I freely acknowledge that RS is a liberal rag, but the details of the article were factual, and something everyone should know. Anyone who thinks "money is speech" is cracked.

The rich & the corporations effectively run the country at this point. It's pretty sad.

Yeah, right....if there is anything Romney and his friends enjoy, its dirty air and polluted water......
and tax shelters treated exactly just like Obama treated em....., etc.....

Considering what has come out of DC and the astounding gains made by the country stemming from the control of a Democratic House, and a Democratic Senate and a Democratic White House in this administration.......yeah, its gonna be different

Not a REAL budget....is that right....

Is it gonna be a first, that a man and his party, can go through an entire 4 year term without ever passing even one budget ?
Was it ever happened before ?

Your grammar is truly atrocious lately. You're losing brain cells every single day, you know...

(1) I think the grand bargain bullshit is bullshit and will not happen. Frankly, I don't see how anyone could even begin to negotiate with the Republicans in the House after they reneged on the bargain that was struck last time.

(2) I don't think Romney said quite that and if you look at his actual tax plan and military spending plan and deficit promises what you end up with is the almost total destruction of the social safety net.

(3) There are three issues that I think the parties are relatively close on: (1) War on Drugs (2) Anti-Terrorism and (3) corporate regulation (but even here there si quite a spread where Democrats prefer minimal regulation while Republicans prefer self-regulation). On everything else, including most importantly tax policy, spending policy and social welfare policy, the parties are pretty damn far apart and don't even subscribe to the same realities.

It's to be expected at his age, but he could do some things to alleviate it. Of course the biggest thing is excerise and I am thinking that a guy who has to use......every....few words....in order to....."rest his hands.....probably doesn't get much of it.

Get up Bravo! Get some blood flowing it's gone to your feet!

Yes, yes and yes. Remember that budgets can pass through reconciliation procedures and pretty much everything that Romney and Ryan want to do cannot be filibustered.
