Can a third party come out of California?

Interesting take. Would think this could be true but Arnold fit the bill of one of these third way type people and he didn't have any success.

GOPer Steve Schmidt: Third party future ripe in CA because GOP not “a viable institution” (VIDEO)

Californians know Steve Schmidt not just as the Republican who ran Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign but as senior adviser to former CA Guv Arnold Schwarzenegger. (See HBO’s “Game Change” if you need help. Woody Harrelson played him.)

In his new role as Republican TV talking head, Schmidt has been dishing out the tough love for his GOP since 2009. So on Wednesday, in light of the fledgling third-party Americans Elect being unable to find a candidate, Schmidt riffed on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that a third-party candidate could someday come out of California. Why here? Because the present ain’t pretty.

“The Republican Party in that state has collapsed,” Schmidt said. (We pause for an “Ouch!”) “It has ceased to function as a viable institution. The Democratic Party is a wholly owned subsidiary of the public employee unions. The state is in an existential financial crisis. And you’ll see someone I think come out of the middle who is fiscally conservative, socially tolerant and I think California could be a trendsetter.”

First question: Who is that person? And if they exist, will they step forward? Let’s go to the MSNBC video for an interesting riff on third party candidates:

All these third party candidate things are colossal flops, always seem to emanate from out of work campaign advisers and have no constituency other that the dipshits in the media.

wouldn't it be nice if that wasn't so? as to the media....they are in the bag for the main two parties.

I don't think it would be particularly nice. As for the media, they fall in love with every one of these third party things. The trouble for these third party upstarts is that the public doesn't give a shit about them and it isn't due to lack of coverage.

are you kidding? the media does not fall in love with them.

the public does care, unfortunately, they see it as i do....a vote for TP is a vote for the other candidate.

Right. Like that Americans Elect bullshit venture wasn't fawned over by the media. Get real.

Just because you care doesn't mean anyone else does. Americans Elect spent $35 million on a centrist third party candidacy and couldn't field a candidate because no one gave a shit.

what? you sound pissed off. the media did not fawn over them. get real yourself dung.

OK. Whatever:

Write it down: Americans Elect. What Amazon.com did to books, what the blogosphere did to newspapers, what the iPod did to music, what drugstore.com did to pharmacies, Americans Elect plans to do to the two-party duopoly that has dominated American political life — remove the barriers to real competition, flatten the incumbents and let the people in. Watch out.

I'm all for it.....it's not like it's going to cost the Republicans any electoral votes in California and it might be interesting to see what a fiscal conservative from California actually looks like.....

"Californians know Steve Schmidt not just as the Republican who ran Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign but as senior adviser to former CA Guv Arnold Schwarzenegger. "

Ok. So we know not to pay any attention to that guy for sure.

And why is that?

Well if you cannot figure that out there is no use for me to try and explain it to ya.

As I thought you have no reason. Just trying to make another 'funny' comment that failed.

Let's see Arnold won two elections with Schimdt as his advisor but according to your comment its his fault that McCain didn't win because everyone in America expected McCain to win in 2008 given how great of a candidate he was and how happy the country was with Bush.

And great response to the substance of the post.
