He was already on a ventilator - and was "chronically vent dependent". His prospects were never great. But all she could see before her was the ventilator - and not the patient.
"When he came in we were so desperate for vents," she told me, "all I wanted to do was get the ventilator off him. I wanted to get that vent off him to allow it to go to someone else."
Playing god is not what this young woman thought she would be doing at this stage in her career.

You idiots have this misconception that people who support choice within reason, And medically needed abortions, love abortion, that is an absolute lie. We just choose not to interject our personal opinions, morals onto others. I believe abortion is personal and is between a woman, her doctor and her God, if she believes in one.

Agreed. It's like supporting CFM's right to be a low-class, beta male racist: I don't like it or agree with it but I support his right to live his life as he sees fit. I wouldn't make his beliefs, no matter how repugnant, illegal. That's what authoritarian assholes do.
