Why do right wingers hated education?

The reality is not everyone is cut out for college, and that’s not a knock on them. Some people have amazing skills and a college degree isn’t required for them. Others have life circumstances that don’t allow them to go. Others just don’t do well in a structured class environment but in reality are plenty smart.

I think on the extreme an example like the Freakanomics folks who wrote about the Chicago drug dealers and how some of the leaders had Fortune 500 CEO level minds in how they built, structured and rang their organization and never went to college.

And for some folks trade schools serve a much better purpose than running up a bunch of debt for a college degree. And especially for older folks, college degrees weren’t as important to get a job as they are today.

Now I’ll admit every year I await the U.S. News and World Report rankings. I want to see where USC is ranked. If someone said that’s some elitist stuff and few care I wouldn’t argue with them.

It's been a while since cawacky wrote a sensible post like this. Too much trump posting makes him sound like a lunatic, I expect.

I expect people to make and pursue the best decisions for themselves that they can. For some people that includes formal postsecondary education. For others it doesn't. There is a tendency, however, among the lesser educated to devalue and despise education. Look at the talk in this thread about an elitist cult brainwashing young minds. It's absurd.

I am a proponent for education. I think everyone should get as much as they can. It matters less to me that people land all over the achievement scale than that some people think education is unnecessary or evil.

Shut up. Tired of you morons talking about you not needin' no book lernin.

Notice that he can't simply take pride in his practical knowledge and experience. He has to denigrate formal education in order to make his informal education have value. That's the point.

'book lernin' isn't a bad thing. But relying on it to try and elevate yourselves above others is incredibly idiotic. It's along the same lines as someone being too big and too bad........because there will always be someone bigger and badder than you.............someone will be more intelligent than you higher learned morons with your paper certificates of regurgitation education

You can't type three sentences without contradicting yourself. A little more school probably would not have hurt you.

I’m a huge proponent of education as well (which is why I’m so passionate about education reform but that’s a separate discussion). I’m fortunate to have grown up in a home where education was emphasized and I’m attempting to create the same environment for my daughter.

But yeah, I’m aware of how some don’t view higher education as favorably (and that transcends background and political beliefs).

My mom and I are both educators. She ended up in an administrative and training role related to early childhood development. I moved into commercial real estate. We could talk for years about education reform, but I'm glad your daughter is being exposed to the importance of education.

Working in CRE you can appreciate my father was a grad school professor and taught real estate finance. My wife got her Masters in early childhood development and has directed a preschool for years so similar background to your mom.

Wow, lots in common. People like your dad taught me that cap rates matter as much as personal relationships in real estate. Happy holidays to an accomplished family.

It would be easier for a physics geek to figure out how to fix a toilet, than for you to learn the quantum physics principles behind GPS and smart phone technology

obviously, because I didn't go to college, right? Because without a formal facility and professors, it would be impossible for ANYONE to pick up a book and read, or work with it directly, right? Exactly as I stated, and was absolutely correct, you idiot college grads think yourselves above everyone else........

Indeed.

It’s not that we hate education it’s that we hate what has become of it. It’s to the point that any kid that comes out of college who doesn’t have at least some socialist inclinations should be congratulated for their stubbornness.

It’s little more than glorified indoctrination.

It is just as likely that college graduates form left-leaning inclinations as colleges encourage students to lean left. Here's a spoiler: Better educated people just tend to lean left. It's not a conspiracy. It's evolution.

I'm going off memory here (and we're talking pre 2016 and Trump) but those with advanced degrees voted left politically but Republicans still attracted (slightly) more college educated voters.

And that makes sense (to me at least). Traditionally the Democrats biggest supporters were blue collar/union workers, those in education and minorities and women (and while women get more degrees today than men I do not believe that was the case 50 years ago)

Those with lesser levels of education attainment favored Trump. It's a strange time. Science and education are not, in and of themselves, political, but this is the hell we live in now.

I do not accept the premise of your fantasy world where it is remotely common for high school graduates to self-teach themselves quantuum physics, higher mathematics, and advanced laboratory genetics.

I however do accept your tacit admission that your life, and all the technology and public infrastructure you rely on, renders you utterly independent people with college and graduate school degrees.

I could teach a physics geek to change a tire in ten minutes.

There is zero chance you could sit down with books and teach youself professional competency in higher mathematics and physics in years of attempts.
