White Women’s Rage: 5 Thoughts on Why Jan Brewer Should Keep Her Fingers to Herself

I dont think they are incapable of redemption.

WHERE THE FUCK do you get that from?

STOP lying about what people say.

So are you for or against MTV et al showing sexist rap videos to 6 and 7 year old children? Whilst we are about it why do so many female singers these days feel the need to dress like hookers? How does that instill respect for women?

You were serious with that nonsense in the OP?

So the MAN is allowed to demean the little woman and she should just keep her mouth shut and get back in the kitchen? Is that what you think she should have done. HE by all accounts started the confrontation. HE is not a God. HE works FOR the people.

By whose account did he "start the confrontation"? I have not read about this much at all because I think it's a bunch of nonsense. She's an idiot looking for a photo op and she got one. I don't know anything about him starting it, where did you get that from?

As for his body language - he's tall. Is he supposed to get on his knees when talking to her because she's not? She doesn't look intimidated to me. And keep in mind I'm someone who considers Obama to be dismissive of women. So I would love to see some back up for this, and something that wasn't written by Michelle "Wahhhh" Malkin.

You seem incapable of answering a simple question.

You are just like all of the righties who come on here yelling "I didn't see the ACLU say anything when..." and of course, invariably, the ACLU had said something. It's the victim hood mindset.

Again, if you followed feminist writers, you'd know that rap lyrics are hotly debated and often agitated against by feminists of all races.

Your "Aha! They never say anything when the black guy does it" card is out-of-date.

As I've told my brother when he pulls this shit - yep, some black men are sexists too. do you feel better now? cause I don't.

Bewer claimed two minutes after her meeting weith Obama that he was VERY respectful and it was a consturctive meeting.

MONTHS later in a book she claimed all sorts of evil came from Obama.

She is a Palin type media whore.

She is a liar.

Well, from what I understand there were two other officials privy to this conversation and both have gone on record as saying it was absolutely no big deal and Brewer blowing it way out of proportion. Sounds like someone wanted some right wing blog attention. She got it. But I didn't even read the articles, I am just going by the headlines. Honestly I could care less about this, talk about a tempest in a teapot. I think Obama will be okay, and it looks like Brewer survived the big confrontation as well. Oh the drama of it all.

Now, the Viola Davis round table, that was interesting. And IMO the discussion happening on the linked article about that is very interesting as well. How black women are portrayed by Hollywood is definitely an engrossing topic and should be talked about more. I understand what Theron's critics are saying. They are basically saying she shut down Davis' thoughts on this matter by telling her she was hot. I'd love to see a real roundtable on this subject.

Which is why every time I discuss this movie I bring up the complaints that poet brought up.

That is part of why this movie is important.

I still wish the movie had gone a little deeper into the main charactors sons death.

He is pictured in a graduation picture in her home and then its mentioned that he was killed.

Very briefly and I bet most people missed its importance to the story.

He told her that he was unhappy with her book when he got off the plane. That is what upset her.

I am tall as well. I make it a point not to bend over like that when talking to someone shorter in close proximity. It can be viewed as intimidating, whether intended as such or not.

Desh is referring to the meeting they had in the Oval Office. To the media afterward, she said what Desh said... being diplomatic. In her book, she stated what she really thought. She said Obama talked down to her and felt like he was talking to her like a professor. She felt he was talking down to her. That is what Obama got all whiny about. When they met in AZ (the photo), he told her he did not like her comments. She was not expecting him to comment on her book and she reacted poorly.

Well, she is using right wing talking points in describing him here, so unless I was there I wouldn't know who to believe on this. I don't have an opinion.

I'm just surprised that you found so hard to acknowledge the fact, so thanks for that.

I know but you're so wonderful SF. Not everyone can be as thoughtful and wonderful as you.

I was at university in the early 70's where there was a constant stream of feminist debate going on. I've read a few like Germaine Greer, Erica Jong of Zipless Fuck fame and even a little of Andrea Dworkin which I would recommend to anyone who suffers from insomnia.

I've written articles on it, I don't find it hard to acknowledge at all. I live in reality, where some men are sexist, some men are rapists, some men are violent, and it really doesn't matter what color they are. I do not fall for the myth of the black male rapist that many white women do. Black women are mostly raped by black men, and white women are mostly raped by white men. This of course, precludes situations like the Jim Crow South when rape was used as a terrorist tactic against southern black women. And of course during slavery black women were raped by white men every minute. But as pertains to my life, and to the lives of most white women, we are most likely to have an act of violence committed against us by a white male. That is very important for white women to understand as racists still play on those old, mythological terrors.

This in no way means that we are not impacted by black male sexism.

Yes, I am quite aware of your contempt for feminists, I've picked up on before but never said anything, just as I've never said anything when I've seen poet say something that I find sexist. Frankly if SF wrote a few of the things poet wrote I would be all over him.

And that is my fault because I don't always feel like getting into a big fight with some man. Because guess what? Some man is always saying some stupid shit about women somewhere. I don't have the energy for it anymore. I am sick and tired of it. I don't tolerate it in my personal life but I can't end it online.

I also think that in England you're probably considered a conservative. Your take on race and gender are not the only issues I've seen this show up in. I've no doubt the righties here consider you to be a rabid leftist only because of what they are comparing you to - themselves.

you mean the (R) woman felt Obama was being dismissive of her and talking down to her is spouting off 'right wing' talking points even though a well known female liberal on this site just commented on how Obama is dismissive of women? Are you a closet right winger now?
