The Trump Organization’s relentless quest for tax avoidance has its roots in Fred Trump’s determination to fend off the taxman at every possible turn. A self-made workaholic who built and sold his first house before he was 20, the elder Mr. Trump eventually passed more than $1 billion to his children while employing legally dubious strategies to avoid nearly $500 million in taxes on the transfers, a 2018 investigation by The Times found.

“My father had always been very much opposed to paying taxes, so to the extent he could pay less in taxes, that was a good thing,” Robert Trump, the former president’s younger brother, said in a legal deposition related to Fred Trump’s estate. (Robert Trump died last year at 71.)

Almost everyone pays as little tax as the law allows.

D. Trump bragged about not paying taxes.

Its one think to keep your tax bill as small as legally possible and another as we are now seeing with the indictment of the Trump Organization. This is just the beginning, I expect many more indictments including family members and the big man himself. Trump was born a crook and its finally catching up to him.

Ironic, as he built his empire by taking taxpayer funding.

New York is the first strike at Trump. He is weakened and there will be civils suits against Trump.

It is anti-American (or iinm, illegal) to pay more than you are required to pay in taxes.

I dont go that far, but you do have a point. Another point is that because of the presumption of innocence charging people for grey area tax crimes is unconstitutional abuse. I am fairly sure that given how clean Trump runs that is what they are going to do to him.

I am sometimes wrong.
