Fun Fact - California and Oregon signed a binding pledge that they would allot EC votes to reflect the national popular vote. Both states violated that pledge in 2024. Despite Trump winning the popular vote, they put forth "fake electors" for the democrats in defiance of the pledge. In reality, the electors from both states were null and void.

The EC is not allocated based on popular vote. California and Oregon allocate EC votes to the democrat regardless of the outcome of the state election. Most other states allocate ALL electors based on the outcome of the election in that state. The EC does not reflect the popular vote.

There is a psychological side to it. China has never been a match for Japan - that is ingrained in their history and their culture.

I don't disagree on the latter, but size matters when you're only a few miles apart. As we've seen with our THAAD and other systems in the attacks on Israel, we can eventually run out of ammo in those systems and then even old WW II stuff will get through. We don't have nearly enough ordnance to cover everybody, and neither Party wants to increase the military budget to levels needed to rebuild our defenses. We built up the Red Chinese manufacturing base to massive levels, and now they will use it against us and our allies.
