Bring on WWIII
I thinks some are trying and actually look forward to it.
Bring on WWIII
I understood his point. My point is that he is wrong. Exceptionalism doesn't mean ignoring the negatives. To the contrary, it is in overcoming our weaknesses and striving to better ourselves (and the world) that largely defines the American spirit. We overcome obstacles, address mistakes (slavery, voting rights etc...). Do we still make mistakes... of course. Again, we are not perfect, nor do we claim to be. We have let our political class obtain too much power and in doing so they have begun to revert to the corrupt practices of old Europe (imperialistic mentality, use of war). That is something we the people must overcome... or it will lead to our demise. Ike warned us, we didn't listen. The sooner we address it, the better. There are no perfect systems or perfect countries, but I would love to see examples of what others think might represent a better system overall.
You don't understand exceptionalism.
Me? I didn't vote for Bush! You're working good and hard to hand it over to your beloved world community of kings, brutes, fools, colossal fools, and murderers.
What the hell are you talking about? You live in the one place in the US that is the most like the UK. Washington is like England with bad schools.Note to Low:
If you look up Modern Europe in a thesaurus, I believe you will find "failure" among the results. I suspect that's why you're hiding out on the other side of the world.
My wife does. You don't understand exceptionalism.
You don't understand exceptionalism.
In the tems it is used today, I will add.
fair enough... please describe what you think it means in todays terms.
I'm starting to worry about you Grind.
My country is the best at everything, my country, can do no wrong. Exceptionalism is believing your country is #1 in all areas and that it is superior to other nations in all regards. They do not look at statistics and believe we are falling behind in medicine, education, and production. We may have good work ethics, but so does Germany, Japan and many other nations. They do not believe that our immigrants are the ones who drive innovation and new business. Exceptionalism see all our policies as advancing Democracy, and that a just so not the case. It is the belief that my country is never wrong, even when it is very Wrong.
Ok... thanks for your views on what you think it means. Now show me who is out there stating we are number one at everything and superior in all regards.
Um incorrect. He was referring to how Obama responded AFTER the attack. You know, you liberals made fun of the few minutes Bush sat there after the towers were hit... yet when hours go by after this attack and Obama does nothing to support the embassy personnel... not a peep.
3DOk... thanks for your views on what you think it means. Now show me who is out there stating we are number one at everything and superior in all regards.
Oh, come on SF, to deny it is being ridiculous. You may not, but there are people out there who believe we have a right, by any means to force our values on other nations because we are exceptional.

Give me a break. I asked you for an example... perhaps of a leader that thinks like that. Just one.
you may define exceptionalism that way, but it is not the common definition of American exceptionalism, nor is it a practice of any of our leaders.
Bush used American exceptionalism to invade Iraq. How soon we forget...
