Racist LA Clippers Owner Donald Sterling is a Democrat, What else is new?

You made a statement that this WAS NOT going to blow over, prior to the NBA announcement, when this entire situation wasn't even a week old yet.
Then you acted like you KNEW that this was what the NBA was going to do.

What basis did you use to determine that this wasn't going to blow over?

I made it based on the players reactions, coaches reactions and reactions from those who cover the league and from ex-players reactions and reading comments from friends.

Again, what are you talking about? The feeling expressed by players, other owners, coaches and others in the league (including the commish) made it pretty clear that this was not a "blow over" story. People were pissed. If the NBA didn't act decisively, and at least as aggressively as they responded today, it was obvious - painfully obvious - that many in the league would not let it slide.

Then why was this time more important then all the other times?

“So, if we’re all going to be outraged,” the former NBA star wrapped up, “let’s be outraged that we weren’t more outraged when his racism was first evident. Let’s be outraged that private conversations between people in an intimate relationship are recorded and publicly played. Let’s be outraged that whoever did the betraying will probably get a book deal, a sitcom, trade recipes with Hoda and Kathie Lee, and soon appear on ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars.’”

I actually thought the racism was somewhat tame, though certainly there (just compared to other racist rants we've heard over the years).

I really couldn't figure out what the hell he was talking about. He just sounded senile more than anything.

He did sound senile. Like a senile frightened old man. It was kinda sad.

It is now apparent that there are plenty of people, on both sides of this issue, that would have no problem with themselves being fired from their jobs, over comments that they've made on this forum; because if they would make such comments on a public forum, then just imagine what they're saying in private! :dunno:

It ain't easy being right I guess, huh? Imagine if you'd been wrong. Wtf?

Hahaha, it's not often I'm right either! However as others have stated today's announcement was not a surprise to anyone who has been following the story.

You'll have to ask the NBA that. Actually someone did at the press conference but Silver didn't really answer it.

Isn't it obvious, covering their asses.

It has always been a he said, he said and lots of well paid lawyers on Sterling's part.

He should have gone when he refused to rent to blacks and got fined by the city, because he claimed, they smell and attract vermin.

And that's why I never say here what I wouldn't say in front of my mother...or preacher...(wait a minute ;)) ... or son or boss or whomever. Words have a way of coming back to haunt a person. That's why God gave us 2 ears and only one mouth. I could go on and say that our words betray our heart (Matt. 12:34), but that might be getting too religious for a political website. No wait, I'll go ahead and say it. :)

Agreed, though I can't say I've been so careful. I rely on my employer's good graces, should it ever come to that.

But whatever we post on the internet or say over a cell phone can almost certainly be made public at some point. That's just the times we live in, and I'm pretty sure everyone knows that. I have no problem w/ the NBA deciding that those views - even though initially aired privately - are not views they want represented in their league.

I believe in being as honest as possible and if doing so gets you in trouble you at least were true to your heart. That does not mean you have to always say everything you feel out loud.

If you lose your job for saying something you truly feel/believe you should not have had that job in the first place, it was a misfit.

The truth will always set you free.

Don't forget that sometimes what we DON'T say can sometimes be just as condemning and are you absolutely positive that you've never said even one comment on here, that could come back an haunt you?

So if your boss called you into their office and said you were being fired, over a comment you made here, you would have no problem with it and would just go merrily on your way?

Probably not merrily.

But it is what it is. Do you really think the NBA has no right to dismiss this guy for his comments...that as a league, they can't make that kind of determination? Do you think the government should step in to prevent this?

As confident as I, a mere human can be. I mentioned one time, albeit jokingly, about shooting priests or something and christiefan called me on it but if someone pulled that up and read it in context I am confident they could see it as the mundane comment I meant it for. I also said something one time about going home to shave and grease my balls (it was muzzleloader deer season) but that is something my mom or my boss would have laughed at. Naked Gun sort of humor...makes me laugh. I may be extremely conservative but I am not a complete prude...most of the time. ;)

Companies started pulling sponsorships, many fans were going to boycott tonight and word has come out the players were going to boycott tonight's game. Having a team boycott a game during the playoffs would be a pretty big deal. What do you think should have been done?

Yes! Edit: By this I mean they have every right to do what they did. Up one re-reading my "yes" response could be unclear.

Do you think the government should step in to prevent this?

Absolutely not! Government officials can speak out and condemn (and should, IMO) but to pass laws...I don't like that angle.
