Trump solicited a bribe from Zelensky. He wanted Ukraine to interfere in our election to help him win. That is clearly something of value. In turn, Zelenskty was supposed to announce an investigation against the Bidens. Joe, of course, is his highest rated contender. This was reprehensible and illegal. He did not even have to do it, just say he was going to. It was not about Ukraine's corruption. I doubt anyone thinks trump really cares about that. This was a political campaign move from start to end.
Of course, Trump had Giuliani on the background overruling diplomats and the diplomatic corps. Rudy was not nominated to any position. He was not approved by the House and Senate. He was just given international authority by Trump. The Ukraine interference in 2016 was a diversion by Trumpies. It was fabricated to draw attention from what Trumpies were doing.. So anyone who did not jump on board had to be fired and then their reputations would have to be destroyed. They were disposable. to Trump everyone is. Rudy will find out the hard way.

It is looking more and more likely that impeachment will be before Christmas, but even if your "logic" is correct (its not) they would have already pushed too far to back down now, the political price of backing out is higher than that of moving forward. I do not overestimate the Democrats in Congress, they are just as pathetic and weak as the Republicans and will only do what is in the benefit of their reelection, if they back down now, the liberals will be pissed. You are very likely getting impeachment before Christmas, but even if it is in the new year, it will still happen. Political reality demands it, as to the facts.... When those two things align, it almost always happens.
