Ok, he definitely looks and sounds better than 24 hours ago

I don’t have a problem with people wearing them. I just want them to understand that they aren’t very much more protective than if they weren’t wearing them. And they’re really not doing a whole lot of good for the people around them.
So, we should continue to do social distancing as much as we possibly can.

I have places that are saying that you actually have to wear them. New York where you’re supposed to wear them anytime you’re in contact with people. I don’t know.

I just think it’s not recognizing that the mode of transmission for this organism is likely small aerosols and close range and wearing a cloth mask shouldn’t give you any feeling of safety for being close to people. It shouldn’t make you feel that you’re not generating small particles because you still are. And especially the people I don’t understand the CDC’s recommendations for this. My guess is that there’s a lot of political pressure.

You backpedal nicely. Now tell all of your non-mask friends before Karma gets them too.

ROFL @ "Karmavirus" that's hilarious.
I have no clue WTF you are yammering on - i do not search thru threads for WTF you are trying to say

Aren't the White House journalist wearing masks?

Then why haven't you spoken in support of them the past 7 months? Why do you let idiots like Darth, the self-appointed healthcare expert, claim tehy don't work at all? INT/IBDa/gfm? Grokmaster? All the Usual Suspects including Trump?

QED. Go for it, Doc! Let's see you 'splain to Lucy all about masks.

Carp, you’re being silly lol.

What does the word ‘skeptic’ mean to you?

Masking has become so ingrained into the public mind that the CDC probably doesn’t want to deal with the backlash if they came out and said “well, we’re not really sure they do all that much”.

Don’t be surprised if there’s a segment of the population that never stops wearing them, post COVID.

Which is actually the subtext to this business. It is going to be difficult getting back to ‘normal’ after this because the public psyche has been damaged by the constant barrage of panic porn from the media.

If aerosol transmission is a big driver then surgical/cloth masks are pointless. Period. End of discussion. That calls for an N-95. To get fit-tested for an N-95 the mask must conform to the face because anywhere air can leak through—aerosols will leak through with it.

During the fit-test an *aerosol* [something atomized like a perfume] is sprayed in front of the mask—and if you can smell it, then there’s a air leak.

With a surgical mask there’s almost always some air leaking from the side and the microscopic holes in the fabric are macroscopic relative to the size of an atomized droplet of perfume—or whatever.

Imo, the only time a surgical mask does any good is in face to face contact with someone. If someone is standing right in front of you talking the fabric can physically block any droplets from coming your way. That’s why I say masks are nearly pointless when shopping at Lowe’s or whatever.

In my opinion.

The way Bret and Heather have been putting it since May what the evidence suggests is that getting COVID is more complicated than you suggest. They say that we should imagine a bucket getting filled with SARS-COV2, taking it into our airway......for most people if they get just a little bit they will not get sick, that the bucket needs to fill to some threshold which is probably different for different people. Get to that point and then we will have COVID, though it may well be asymptomatic. The more we get the sicker we are likely to get. This is further complicated by the fact that the timeline is another factor, this is not like radiation where the lifetime intake is important, we need to get enough virus in a short amount of time to get sick.

What masks do is lessen the load, they dont need to filter out all of the virus in able to be worth doing, every bit that they prevent helps.

I think they’re [however they are lol] are talking about viral load.

But if aerosol transmission is a big driver—then the viral load for transmission is minimal. Large droplets—being large, wont stay in the air as long as aerosol. In fact, simply social distancing would mitigate a lot of large droplet transmission.

Surgical masks were intended for surgery where the concern is bacterial transmitted wound infections and/or as PPE for the surgical and anesthesia team. They were never intended to ‘stop airborne viruses’ and I doubt seriously any healthcare workers have contact with COVID patients just wearing surgical masks. Though since I’m out of the game that’s speculation on my part.

I see a lot of juvenile posting on this thread from you, for a medical professional who is old enough to be retired.

He could have a trust fund and retired at 30 years of age, Trumper.

Love those GST's (Generational Skipping Tax).

Earl, since when are there links to personal opinions???????????????????.

Your post was not an opinion, it was stated as fact, Trumper.

"Earl, there's a 99.99999% chance that he's a fibber.'

Had it been an opinion, you would have posted, "in my opinion..."
