Back then, the southern Dems were racists and hanging on to slavery mentality They were the home of Jim Crow and separate bit unequal. The Democratic Party worked for equal rights, and the Dixiie Crats were furious. When the Civil Rights Act was passed, they moved into their proper home, the Republican Party. They have been there since 1965. The Repub party is the proper home of bigots and haters.
