Now if you were talking about Government run hospitals and care; yes, they are terrible and always will be as a result of massive faceless bureaucrats that make their decisions; the VA being the best and biggest example.
I have had my mom in assisted living since 2010. I don't know where you are coming up with that $11 to $16K figure....but in a very expensive state like California, I have found very nice facilities with excellent care and a PRIVATE room for $5K.
