where is obama crying that the dems are holding the american people hostage? where are those dems on this site who said the pubs are holding the american people hostage?

the pubs have agreed to extend UB benefits....yet what do we hear all day from dems...its the republicans fault we don't have an extension of UB benefits....look....i don't agree with not letting the wealthy tax cuts expire...but you have to get real....its only for two years

are you dems really going to whine about a two year extension when you get the extension of UB benefits? let it go....compromise necessarily means both sides do not get what they want

WASHINGTON – Raising the direst alarm yet, the Obama administration warned fellow Democrats on Wednesday that if they defeat the big tax-cut compromise detested by many liberals, they could jolt the nation back into recession.

President Barack Obama appealed anew for Congress to "get this done" and insisted that more congressional Democrats would climb aboard as they studied details of the $900 billion year-end measure. Several did announce support on Wednesday, but at least one said there still was "a mood to resist."

Since you love the hostage analogy, I guess I'll play along for giggles. The ransom being demanded by the Republicans is clear: tax cuts for the wealthy. What ransom are these unnamed Democrats demanding?

Fuck him. That's just bullshit. And, to the extent that it's true, it's his fault for not actually making the case (1) for a tax plan that doesn't include tax cuts for the rich and at least pressuring the Republicans to back down and (2) for not doing anything to spur economic growth or at least making the case for additional stimulus.

This is why Democrats are pissed. It's not the compromise per se, but how it came about and Obama's leadership failure. Had Obama been making the argument all along and ended up here, instead of sitting on his hands for the past ten months, the response would have been a whole hell of a lot different. "We tried our best, and this is what we got" is a lot easier to swallow than "It's this or nothing."

you're right...obama has done very little with the economy, he blew it spending so much time and effort on the h/c bill...

that said...obama is correct...this is about compromise, dems are going to look stupid right now for sticking to party purity while millions of americans have their UB benefits expire because you dems couldn't stop whining about tax cuts for the wealthy....this isn't about the budget, this is about you dems holding up UB benefits because you didn't get your way on letting bush tax cuts expire

but if you want to play along....then the dems are holding some minor tax increase if bush's tax cuts expire (3%) for the very wealthy as ransom....

you do understand i think the gop is dumb on this don't you....and i'm getting the impression from you that you believe it is MORE important to fight for the sunset of bush's tax cuts for the very wealthy than to extend the UB benefits for MILLIONS of americans....

Well, I've already said I'm OK with the deal so your impression is wrong.

I just didn't see the hostage analogy working as applied to the Democrats but fuck it. I don't care enough to argue it. I guess I was looking at the unemployment benefits as the hostage instead of the American people. The reality is that whoever the hostage is, this deal just means that the hostage is safe for now. The real hostage negotiations will take place in February when the debt ceiling issue comes into play.

here is the thing....you agree the deal makes sense...you haven't said you don't see the hostage thing with the pubs....YET....now the dems won't vote it and get UB benefits for the american people....its not a hostage thing...its only a hostage thing when it pubs
