Our mayor was very smart to shit down the Houston rodeo!

They were also very proactive by shutting down SXSW very early.

That was back when DT was still in denial mode.

Very bold move.

Well congratulated, now.

Too bad the prez could not have been so advanced.

Would have saved lives.

Obesity is definitely a problem in the U.S. and other industrialized countries. As you pointed out, it can lead to a host of comorbidities. That being said, especially for us over-60s, a bit of extra "fluff" is a good thing. It gives us the reserve to fight infections especially those that attack the lungs. When you are struggling to get enough O2 but can't, your body will begin to cannibalize your fat and then muscle in order to survive. Example: In 1994 I got an influenza-like illness that put me flat on my back for 10 days with temps as high as 105F. Ended up in the hospital with pneumonia. I weighed 95 lbs when I came out; looked like a survivor of Auschwitz. Had started out at 115. I was saved by my relative youthfulness and general good health. Many of we older folks don't have those luxuries now.

Daaayum! You're fortunate to be alive. That was quite an ordeal. I agree there's nothing wrong with a bit of extra fluff. I was just
focusing on the bigger picture of excessive sugar-related diseases which all compromise the immune system.

Where is the panic? All I have seen, other than the toilet paper, is calm orderly reaction.

Gosh I don't know dumbass; airports are closed for business, restaurants are closed for business, hair salons, bars, theaters, cities.....government offices. The stock market tanked over nothing right?

You are one major dishonest dumb fuck you know that?

No, but I can give you a few facts regarding the flu and current virus;

"COVID-19 is novel, or new. That means there's no vaccine, and it's unclear how it will manifest"

"This strain of coronavirus appears to infect two to 2.5 people versus 1.3 with the flu, so coronavirus seems to be about twice as contagious as the flu"

"Some 20% of coronavirus patients are in serious enough condition to go to the hospital, 10 times the number who wind up in the hospital because of the flu"

"Hospital stays for the coronavirus are twice as as long as for the flu"

"About 8% of people get the flu every year. Some estimates are 25% to 50%, possibly up to 80%, could get the coronavirus without drastic actions being taken by individuals, states and municipalities and the federal government"

"The coronavirus could be 10 times deadlier than the flu — about 0.1% who get flu die. It's estimated that about 1% of those who have gotten coronavirus have died from it"

"There are treatments for the flu. There are no approved treatments for the coronavirus, despite the president's optimism for certain drugs, which are untested for coronavirus to this point"

"The flu tends to wane in warm weather, but it's too soon to count on that for coronavirus, which is thriving in warm, tropical places."

COVID-19: U.S. at a Glance*†

Total cases: 122,653
Total deaths: 2,112

The number dead is more than 30 times higher than it was 10 days ago. If it is 30 times higher in 10 days, we will be halfway to 100,000. Does anyone think trump will solve this in the next 10 days?

After 75 days we have seen 2,112 deaths from this disease. It has a fatality rate in the US of around 1.5%. It isn't up to Trump to solve. It's for EVERYONE to solve. I know leftists are hoping for tens of thousands of deaths for partisan political purposes, but it just isn't going to materialize.

Let's all beware as Trump warned us that the CURE is not worse than the DISEASE itself. Millions of jobs have been lost over this, millions more to come and this is nowhere near previous epidemics.

Be careful of what you wish for snowflakes on the left.

It will peak when the susceptible population gets herd immunity. That will be when somewhere over a hundred thousand people die.

Another moronic prediction and wishful thinking from the King of morons. China, the epicenter third world shit hole of the disease is only reporting out 3,304 deaths.

Again, the fatality rate is around 1.5%. 80% or so don't even realize they are sick from this disease.

Donald Trump, is that you?

Well, Trump cut flights from China very early—and was called a racist for it. That helped, right?

Trump has been harping on about being so dependent on China—right again.

And if we learn nothing else from this, it’s time to get serious about immigration policy.

Yes he did:

On December 31 last year, China alerted WHO to several cases of unusual pneumonia in Wuhan

January 6: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a travel notice for Wuhan, China due to the spreading coronavirus

January 7: The CDC established a coronavirus incident management system to better share and respond to information about the virus

January 11: The CDC issued a Level I travel health notice for Wuhan, Chinahttps://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2001191

First case discovered in the US on January 19th. Arrived on January 15th.

January 20: Dr Fauci announces the National Institutes of Health is already working on the development of a vaccine for the coronavirus

January 31: The Trump Administration:
1. Declared the coronavirus a public health emergency.
2. Announced Chinese travel restrictions
3. Suspended entry into the United States for foreign nationals who pose a risk of transmitting the coronavirus.

February 24: The Trump Administration sent a letter to Congress requesting at least $2.5 billion to help combat the spread of the coronavirus

February 29: The Trump Administration:
. Announced a level 4 travel advisory to areas of Italy and South Korea
. Barred all travel to Iran
. Barred the entry of foreign citizens who visited Iran in the last 14 days

March 6: President Trump signed an $8.3 billion bill to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

WHO declares COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11

Idiots on the left call this doing nothing.

US now over 113,000 cases. Almost doubled in two days, huh?
