Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

Hello Dutch Uncle,

There are 4.25 million confirmed cases in the USA.

There are 331 million people in the USA.

4.25 / 331 = 0.01

.01 * 100% = 1%

Officially, only 1% of our population has this.

That is not an 'out-of-control' situation.

This is not a losing battle that we need to concede.

We can still turn this around.

We have to try.

You are forgetting how big the US is geographically. A ventilator in one city can't easily be handed over to one 2700 miles away then handed back as needed. Besides, it's already being done:

The situation is critical and soon we'll see the Trump version of Death Panels: Sending old patients home to die to make room for patients who are more likely to survive. This is the Triage situation pointed out a few months ago.

Now Starr County is at a dangerous “tipping point,” reporting an alarming number of new cases each day, data show. Starr County Memorial Hospital — the county’s only hospital — is overflowing with COVID-19 patients.

The county has been forced to form what is being compared to a so-called “death panel.” A county health board – which governs Starr Memorial – is set to authorize critical care guidelines Thursday that will help medical workers determine ways to allocate scarce medical resources on patients with the best chance to survive.

A committee will deem which COVID-19 patients are likely to die and send them home with family, Jose Vasquez, the county health authority, said during a news conference Tuesday.

“The situation is desperate,” Vasquez said. “We cannot continue functioning in the Starr County Memorial Hospital nor in our county in the way that things are going. The numbers are staggering.”

Coronavirus: The young doctors being asked to play god

"The most anxiety I have is around ventilator allocation. Seeing people die is not the issue. We're trained to deal with death. Nor is it the volume of people dying. The issue is giving up on people we wouldn't normally give up on." She described a patient being brought in from an old people's home. He was already on a ventilator - and was "chronically vent dependent". His prospects were never great. But all she could see before her was the ventilator - and not the patient.
"When he came in we were so desperate for vents," she told me, "all I wanted to do was get the ventilator off him. I wanted to get that vent off him to allow it to go to someone else."
Playing god is not what this young woman thought she would be doing at this stage in her career.

It's a losing battle for us to receive correct stats in the U.S.
All we get are inflated numbers being the SUM of presumed AND confirmed representing the CONFIRMED stat. Nothing but lies.

ICD-10-CM Official Coding and Reporting GuidelinesApril 1, 2020 through September 30, 2020 1.
Chapter 1: Certain Infectious and Parasitic Diseases (A00-B99)g. Coronavirus Infections1) COVID-19 Infections (Infections due to SARS-CoV-2) a)Code only confirmed cases Code only a confirmed diagnosis of the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as documented by the provider, documentation of a positive COVID-19 test result, or a presumptive positive COVID-19 test result. For a confirmed diagnosis, assign code U07.1, COVID-19. This is an exception to the hospital inpatient guideline Section II, H.
In this context, “confirmation” does not require documentation of the type of test performed; the provider’s documentation that the individual has COVID-19 is sufficient. Presumptive positive COVID-19 test results should be coded as confirmed. A presumptive positive test result means an individual has tested positive for the virus at a local or state level, but it has not yet been confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). CDC confirmation of local and state tests for COVID-19 is no longer required.

Thanks for that story but it doesn't move me to want to give up on fighting COVID or assume that it is out of control.

It is entirely understandable why a poor community with limited resources could be easily overwhelmed. Fortunately that does not describe all of the USA.

The fact you altered his post with this emoji clearly identifies you as the pathetic one, RB:

You just can't read, can you? Now FUCK OFF!

Money doesn't buy your way out of Covid. It costs $10/year for D3 supplements to help out the immune system.
Stop blowing money on sugar & carbs and it'll help even more.

Or we get low numbers because counting is delayed. You believe in an overcount because you want to. The Trump virus is terrible and growing. Trump's mismanagement put us in a horrible position. We are suffering through the presidency of a reality TV show host. Who was stupid enough to think that was a good idea? So we are paying for right-wing ignorance and gullibility.

Something tells me Nordberg you were suffering long, long before Trump.

They're rolling totals for pete's sake. Everyone knows that. You're ignoring your own precious beloved CDC's data methodology.

They all see it Stretch. Because you pointed it out. It just does not fit their narrative. Therefore they will do what they do best. Run around in circles hoping the truth goes away.

Still no peak in the number of Active Cases.

We need to do way better.

We have had such poor leadership with such mixed messages.

It was really sad that President Trump put that stupid message out before Easter that those weeks were going to be the worst and then we could begin opening up the economy again. That was completely wrong. We can look back at the numbers and the data and see how wrong that was, now.

This is such a challenge for America.

How ironic we call ourselves the UNITED States when we are so divided.

This is a challenge because in order to fight the coronavirus we have to pull together toward a common goal.

Wash your hands. Wear a mask. Watch your distance. Limit social contacts wherever possible.

Come on people. Show your patriotism by doing what you can to fight the virus, protect your fellow Americans.

We are all counting on each other.

Don't let America down.

Forget politics.

This is about the humans vs the bug.

Trump is now telling you to follow the CDC guidelines.

If you refuse to believe your own president, the one you thought was making America great, then that just makes your politics look silly.

Trump finally has it figured out. The worse the virus gets, the worse his chances of reelection. He wants to get the numbers down. If you have listened to him on everything you want to believe in then you need to listen to him now.

Believe it or not, the virus is here.

Disbelievers are the perfect tool for the virus, which of course doesn't care. It's a bug.

Join the fight.

America needs YOU.
