Corona Virus Peak Watch Thread

The collateral damage from the pandemic continues: Young adults, as well as Black and Latino people of all ages, describe rising levels of anxiety, depression and even suicidal thoughts, and increased substance abuse, according to findings reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In a research survey, U.S. residents reported signs of eroding mental health in reaction to the toll of coronavirus illnesses and deaths, *and to the life-altering restrictions imposed by lockdowns.*

It’s rampant.

It’s amazing how so *relatively* few people are directly affected by the virus yet a far greater number have been adversely affected by *the response* to the virus. Businesses lost, lives destroyed and etc.

It won’t happen until after the election but their stories will be told.

It is absolutely crass. Mistakes were made in the beginning, but deaths now continue because of people like Darth and others who have no regards for others and slowing the transmission of this disease.

Yes. I'd like to force them to work as carers in old folks' retirement homes.

Just ignore it and keep harping on the 200,000* because it makes Trump look bad?

' Bad ' ? That's a complementary description for the mango monster massacring Americans by the thousand every day- for his ' economy '. He's loved by morticians.

Another day, another thirty eight thousand cases of COVID-19 confirmed by the CDC.

Please take proper precautions, people.

Hello Darth,

That makes no sense.

We would only do that if we want to help the virus spread.

People don't like losing loved ones.

Agreed. Darth, the self-avowed health expert who knows very little about medicine, continues to push a false meme about "90% false positives". He's never provided proof this is true. All he has is a link stating that some people who are infected may not need isolation or contact tracing.

What the link he posted doesn't say is whether or not a person should be regularly tested in case the infected person becomes contagious.

What makes it true [a fact, actually] is that PCR tests are being over cycled, in at least some instances, to yield positives on people who aren’t in any way infectious. At a rate of up to 90% of the time.

This was reported in the NYT—of all places, and then it was dropped like a hot potato.

What that means is when you hear ‘36,000 COVID cases on college campuses’—it’s hard to know what that even means since at significant fraction of the students *may or may not be* infectious unless you know how many times their tests have been cycled.

Your objection about ‘further testing’ is lame. Give them more tests that may or may not indicate the ability to transmit the virus? Good way to make the test manufacturers happy.

You go to war with the weapons you have, not the weapons you wish you had.

Ideally, everyone would have a supply of instant at-home tests which indicate if a person is contagious.

We don't have that, so we are using what we do have because it is better than nothing.

Be careful what you wish for lol:

Those are less sensitive so if they get used on a broad scale the case numbers will drop and some states may feel pressured to ‘open too early’.

Everybody wants this pandemic gone.

Everybody wants to have the economy back.

Here's the problem:

As long as the pandemic is still raging, we can't have the economy back.

Attempting to deny it away, wish it away, insult it away, pretend it away, whatever; None of that is going to work.

We have to take logical science based steps to properly and effectively deal with the pandemic before we can have the full economy back.

There are no shortcuts. We need a united approach.

The best way for us to deal with the pandemic at this point is to

VOTE BIDEN.

You realize O’Biden’s own guy claimed ‘they got lucky’ with H1N1, right lol?

It’s partisan wishful thinking to think ANY president would have made a significant difference in this.

Because...the China virus was already sufficiently prevalent in our population by the time ANYONE could have altered the outcome in any significant way.

Once here, the virus was gonna virus until it’s done virusing.

Biden will just have us doing the lockdown-open-spike-lockdown again, dance. DeSantis showed us how to deal with it.
