The new "variant" is like a 24 hour virus with no fever. I know 3 ppl, 2 unvaxxed, 1 vaxxed, who had it in the past couple of weeks. Same outcomes for both.

Correct. The tallies in this thread are made the next day. Moon's post was 7/5, commenting on the data from 7/4.

Unrelated:

I find it interesting that Worldometer is only showing around 100K new cases per day, but PBS Newshour reported 125K. Must be garnished from a different source. Worldometer typically ran higher on most parameters than Johns Hopkins, so I wonder if that is still true, or if PBS has extrapolated for estimated home tests which are not reported.

Another source is the Mayo Clinic.

I like their national map showing hot spots:

OK, I see what has happened.

Mayo Clinic has changed their COVID level colors.

The numbers are consistent with previous.

The darkest color is incurred at a lower level than previous.

Whew.

The darkest color used to indicate over 100 average daily cases per 100K pop.

Now it indicates 45.

That has produced a more colorful map.

I may have been somewhat overawed by the total number of American deaths to date.

How many American deaths to date is it again ?
 
Deaths are going to be rising.

Deaths trail Serious and Critical cases. There is a lag.

Serious and Critical cases have been rising steadily.

Deaths will rise.
