If a private company wants to fire someone for some embarrassing public comment the person made because they don't want their image associated with it, that's their business.
I seriously doubt you'd put up much of a fuss if someone got fired for being gay or black.
Freedom of speech comes with certain responsibilities.
It was never meant to be a blanket protection for any and every kind of speech.
