America's weapons are expensive; are they effective?

The U.S. Navy Has An Aircraft Carrier Problem

The US Navy's Ford-class program has faced years of cost overruns, delays, and technical issues—particularly with its new catapult and weapons elevator systems.

These problems have raised questions within both political and military circles about whether the benefits justify the costs. As a result, the Navy has initiated a comprehensive review of the design and procurement strategy for future carriers.

The Navy’s review is examining not only the cost of Ford-class carriers but also their operational effectiveness compared to the older Nimitz class.

Officials are asking a fundamental question: Are the new carriers delivering enough additional capability to justify their significantly higher price? Each Ford-class ship costs well over $13 billion, making them among the most expensive military platforms ever built.

The Navy is under increasing scrutiny to ensure that its shipbuilding programs are efficient and aligned with evolving strategic needs. In this context, the carrier review is part of a larger effort to evaluate all major acquisition programs.

The procurement of future Ford-class carriers—specifically the fifth and sixth ships in the class, which have not yet been fully contracted, are under review.

The Navy has indicated that the review results will help determine whether and how these ships are built.

This has led to speculation that the service might slow down production, modify the design, or potentially cancel some planned vessels.

Math Trouble: The Trump-Class Battleship Costs More Than a Ford-Class Aircraft Carrier

The U.S. Navy’s proposed Trump-class battleship, with a preliminary price tag of $17 billion, has generated debate and attention at the Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space exposition.

The figure is shocking because it means the battleship would cost more than a Ford-class aircraft carrier, which is estimated at around $13.3 billion for the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) and roughly $13-15 billion for successive carriers.

The enormous cost has led some analysts to question whether the ship is necessary.

The Trump-class is being designed around weapons and energy generation systems that cannot be installed on any existing vessels.

Among them are directed-energy weapons, which require substantial onboard electrical power.

The People’s Liberation Army Navy is now the largest navy in the world by number of hulls and continues to expand its fleet while investing heavily in its own long-range missile systems designed to overwhelm U.S. defenses.

China’s rapid buildup is putting pressure on the U.S. fleet.

A single B-2 bomber costs roughly $2.2 billion. That is, the US can buy an aircraft carrier for the same price as 6 B-2 bombers. I think the carrier is a really good deal.

What has America gained by degrading its military capabilities in a cowardly sneak attack on a small nation while pretending to be engaging in diplomacy?

You have pledged your national credit to pay for the mammoth expenditure that tyrant Trump committed you to when he launched his cowardly sneak attacks on a small nation the size of Alaska.

When you reflect upon the fact that the same man justified his 2025 attacks on us - scant months before - by claiming he had obliterated Iran's capabilities totally, do you feel that you can rely on him to be truthful?

What have you won, Americans?

More debt?

Undying hate for your nation where none existed before?

The disdain and disgust of many of your esrtwhile allies?

Higher prices at home and and aboard for billions who had no hand in your infamy?

Is this what you call the art of the deal?

Is this what you call winning?

Will the taxpayers rebuild the 13 US military bases in the GCC that Iran wiped off the map?

Who's paying for our troops to hold up at luxury hotels in Kuwait?
Will the survivors tell the media the real count of our dead and wounded?
How much will it cost to tailor smaller marine dress blues after rationing their food?

Maybe we should get rid of Social Security to pay for another jew war.

Address your enquires to those who bear the burden that the tyrant Trump has imposed upon them without their knowlwdge or consent.

The bombing campaigns of the Vietnam War were the longest and heaviest aerial bombardment in history.

The United States Air Force, the U. S. Navy, and U. S. Marine Corps aviation dropped 7,662,000 tons of explosives.

You lost.

What bases were "wiped off the map?" Several were hit and there was some damage. For example NSA Bahrain is still there, just a few buildings were damaged. Those puny drones the Iranians use would hardly make a dent in the base barracks buildings. I know, I inspected those and am familiar with their construction.
