Big Lawns: Bad For The Environment And Racist

This is why the other progressive liberals don't befriend me.

I play golf and drive a Grand Cherokee with a hemi V8.

Nobody's perfect.

Just being liberal is fine, progs are always causing the rest of us to suffer from the law of unintended consequences.

You are claiming that "prosecutions for slavery in America" are proof that someone with lawns "owns folks to keep it up like their ancestors did"?

Ah, remedial help is in order again, here was the post you posted son:

It's your nation too, unless...

BTW, didn't you say the practice of slavery continues today?

Yes.

Get it?

I do not know who "Muqing M. Zhang" is, and have never heard of his Twitter.
What he wrote obviously sounds stupid.

If you are genuinely interested in reading stupid-racist stuff, just patrol this board for a while. I never cease to be amazed at how many conservatives here are overt racist swine.

As to lawns, we live in a desert. It is just stupid and wasteful to try to import the Midwest and have a big ass green lawn. In Tucson, we did not have a single blade of grass, but we had rock gardens and desert landscaping...and it looked freakin' awesome!

We are on the verge of a point-of-no-return climate change paradigm, in which our droughts will get worse, heat waves more persistent, and precipitation patterns altered and more unreliable. Big ass green lawns just ain't gonna cut it anymore, jack!

This reminds me of leaving an arid area and entering a wet, moist, humid area.

As High School ended, I couldn't WAIT to see what was on the 'other side of the mountain'. I'm from an arid 'desert' area, about as south and west as you can get. If ANYTHING was green, it was being watered. The usual tactic was to turn the sprinklers on very early in the morning to avoid evaporation by the sun.
So, I start hitch-hiking East to see where Destiny takes me. 'Hurricane Betsy' (it's aftermath, that is) drew me to Louisiana, where my first reaction was: "Man, they got a good sprinkler system around here". Whereupon, the Driver said "Yeah, it's called rain". Then, in response, and being from Southern Cal, I said in a puzzled voice "Rain?".

So Cypress. In Tucson a rock garden or cactus lawn might be appropriate but in other areas of the country (and this may be hard for you to believe if you've lived in the Southwest forever), you NEVER have to water your lawn or anything else.

Oh, and a Tip: You know how on the rare occasion it does 'rain' in the Southwest and you love to go walk in it for an hour just to feel the sensation of moisture on your face, well, DON'T do it in Louisiana. Within a minute, you will be DRENCHED head to toe. They have these fucking HUGE rain droplets that are completely FILLED with water! It's un fucking real!

If needed a weak chicken manure tea .could be applied with a siphon while hose watering.
Grass clippings are a perfect mulch, with leaves plan to also lime.

Good reminder, leaf compost is on the acidic side. I always mulch clippings.

I use zero chems or fertilizer on my lawn.

In the Piedmont, the turf-type tall fescue has certain needs. My house is in a pricey 'hood so we try to keep up with the Jones as much as possible. Preemergent in the spring to prevent crabgrass, NPK and lime in the early spring and fall. Usually need to overseed end of February due to selective die-off during summer heat, usually where my mulching mower deposits too much cuttings. Late spring, Weed-B-Gone to kill the broads that made it through the Pre-e. I water as little as possible, but during summer drought weeks I give it a good soak, about two hours per pattern with an oscillating sprinkler.

In the mountains we can grow bluegrass, but I prefer creeping red fescue because it grows slower. This is a much more natural landscape, which I prefer but is also encouraged by the HOA. Since I'm not there as much it saves me from weekly summer mowing. It also develops rhizomes so I don't need to overseed as much. Crab isn't a problem so no pre-e. Like the Cape, I get adequate snow that fertilizes. No need for lime either. I have wild strawberries growing among the sunny areas and don't try to control that at all. Along the driveway I tend to get broads and I spray those during the summer. In the deep shade areas the moss is taking over and by keeping it acidic I encourage it.

I use zero chems or fertilizer on my lawn.

I use zero fertilizer on my yard but I use generic grass killer from Atwoods. I kill the grass in my fence lines and around my trees in lieu of weed eating. When I get tired of mowing in the fall I spray the whole yard with it and kill it all.

Repeat this over and over and soon it will be on Fox News and then there will be a backlash of Trumptards
fighting a political war against the attack that never existed. We need a catchy short dumb as dirt ear worm
the Trumplings in Jebusland will latch onto. How about "Lawn heritage" no too many syllables in word 2. Uh "Green grass and high tides forever"
"Get off my lawn!" There. Oh lastly we need to define the enemy with a broad brush. The usual? Yes. Black people.

LOL, limosine liberal with a big yard

Applause :hand:

This thread is much ado about nothing. It's stupid.

This is the opinion of one writer .. that's it. No one else calls lawns 'racist.'

Ca tends to jump on anything that paints the left in a bad light .. even when it doesn't make any sense whatsoever .. and he does so while completely ignoring the mountains of racism on his own side of the fence.

Does this paint the left in a bad light? "You" don't do the same?

That IS fucking nutzo... the racist part, that is. People who live in uber wealthy suburban areas are super conscious about how their property is perceived by their neighbors. The well-manicured and perfectly-landscaped property matters to them. But not enough to maintain it themselves. They typically hire landscaping companies, that typically hire (at least where we used to live) illegals to do the hard work. Our next door neighbor in STL was a perfect example. Her lawn mowers and landscaper ppl were Hipsanics who didn't speak much English. I'm not sure why that's racist though. It's more like being a hypocritical Trump supporter, like she was. Scream about illegals taking our jobs, hire them to do the work you're too fucking lazy to do yourself.

Hopefully you can get your neighbor to leave the country

Of course it attempts to.

Environmentalists = the Left. You disagree?

Environmentalists = all those mean ol' nasty people who won't let republicans do whatever they want to to the environment in California .. which is why republicans are relegated to almost 3rd party status in California.

One guy calling big lawns racist is beyond trivial.

On one hand I agree that one person claiming something doesn't make it true. But should this Chinese lady's cry of racism because they can't plant vegetables and what they want in their yard be summarily dismissed?

Not sure what California has to do with this but if you are talking California and environmental policies we use them force the working class out of the state.

I didn't say that.

Yeah, you responded to it, it's right above, didn't go anywhere:

Oh, well if someone said something, nevermind then.
