Michelle Obama's Expensive Fashion Rivals That Of Ann Romney

While the political fashionistas had a field day this week with Ann Romney's nearly $1,000 blouse, she is not the only presidential candidate's wife with expensive taste. Despite her penchant for more affordable clothing, First Lady Michelle Obama also has a pricey wardrobe.

From Balenciaga and Helmut Lang to Michael Kors and Marchesa, the first lady has been known to wear some big name, and expensive, designer fashions. Last week alone, Mrs. Obama was spotted in two different L'Wren Scott cardigans, priced between $2,000 and $3,000.

are the obama's in touch?

I'm probably missing something here but how is that race baiting?

By comparing the First Lady, who is black, to Gov. Romney's rich wife, who is white. Would he have compared Hilary Clinton to Ann Romney? The First Lady is the visible female figurehead of the United States of America? Is she supposed to shop at K-mart for her fashions, or have access to the best designs and designers as previous First Ladies have had?

do we know if they were purchased or donated

Precisely. Everyone should know that designers routinely send celebrities gowns and dresses to be photographed "worn", which translates to sales for them. I doubt if Michelle Obama has had to pay for any of her designer dresses, as a designer would "kill" to have her wear it. So "non-issue".

Again I guess I'm missing why race matters here. It is basically partisan tit for tat politics that most outside of political junkies don't care about. Politico runs an article yesterday saying Ann Romney wore some $900 shirt (implying that she is out touch). Today partisans on the right respond saying Michelle Obama wears expensive clothes so she is out of touch as well. What is racial about that?

And didn't ditzoid Ann Romney wear a 2K blouse on Good Morning America, the other day, sending the absolute "wrong message", in light of the lifestyle she and her husband lead?
No doubt, bought with all that Swiss bank account money, Mitt doesn't want to talk about.

You're a fucking idiot. People have always compared fashion of First Ladies, would-be and actual. It has nothing to do with race...although it seems with you, EVERYTHING has to do with race.

You're a fucking idiot.

Really? I bet you can't explain why. Why do we need the Earth-shattering insight of your "one-liners"? So much for ignoring me, like you said you were going to do on the Fat women thread. Admit it. You can't quit me. LOL

Yeah poet's actually right about this. I know I will get a lot of resitance to this, but IMO its dog whistle racism. It reminds me a lot of a thing that was going around during the 08 campaign. It was one of those right wing email chain things. It claimed that Michelle had eaten lobster at the Waldorf and it itemized her bill and said, how outrageous. Now, it actually was a complete fabrication and never happened. But the real question was; so what if it had? As if Cindy McCain hadnt eaten at the Waldorf? Had never had an expensive lobster dinner at a five star restaurant? Of course she had.. This email was a play at white resentment, a way of getting angry struggling whit people to say, damn I worked hard all my life now I have no job and this n word is eating lobster at the Waldorf?

Michelle Obama is the first lady of the united states. She dresses, as all white first ladies before her, in accordance. I have a newsflash - it's very likely that Barack obama s suits are very expensive and custom made. Just as all white president's before him. Stfu with this crap.

I edited my post. You can see why for yourself. That said, with your head that far up your ass, it is unlikely that you can be reasoned with.

Oh, take the coward's way out. You're the one that called me a fucking idiot. Now, you need to explain why, based on my post. Or simply STFU. Bring some reason, receive some.

This is an issue I really could not care less about but how is Ann Romney 'out of touch' by wearing a $900 shirt and Michelle Obama 'in touch' by wearing expensive clothes?

Well, the politico article yesterday definitely changes it slightly(I hadn't read or known of it, the politico is a shithole to me), but the fact remains that she's not the first lady of the united states. There is a certain way you have to dress in that position, and criticizing her for wearing the same designer clothes every other first lady has worn (in fact let's be honest which other first lady ever wore so much j crew and target, if any?) definitely has racial overtones and the right would do well to stay far away from that.

Excuse me...but Michelle Obama actually gets "down and dirty" planting trees and veggies with children on the lawn of the White House. She shows up at childrens' recitals, and speaks to schools and organizations about community and helping folks. When has Ann Romney done anything nearly approaching that? Before the White House, Michelle and Barack didn't have "help". Ann Romney has had "help" since she married Mr. Big Stuff.

Again I don't see the racial component. I see partisan pissing back and forth over something pretty worthless.

Cawacko IMO you have to be a moron to wear a 900 dollar blouse for a tv interview when your husband is running for office in the middle of this historic economic inequality. Michelle was never so freaking stupid, she was wearing clothes from target back then. The difference is in both their respective positions and in where they are going. While anyone can understand designer clothing for state dinners etc, 900 dollars is a lot to spend on a blouse. And for a tv interview? That's a misstep.
