Ahem. Black and Asian Teens Have the Lowest Rates of Drug Use

Just out of curiosity, and this is a completely honest question: Does anyone know a cop in real life who isn't a complete prick? If you're a complete prick yourself, no need to answer. I'm sure you can vouch for 30 "nice guy" cops. But I've never met one, and I mean in the family, socially, friends' boyfriends, my brothers' friends. You name it. All top-of-the-line pricks.

I only know (knew) two cops. One was a racist a*hole and the other was a great guy. He was also one of the four Oakland officers shot by that f'ing thug in East Oakland after they pulled him over on his motorcycle two years ago. He was head of our recreation league when we were young and would referee our games and was totally involved in what we did. Truly truly good people.

A complete prick? I know several who are not.

Well you are the antithesis of a prick, so you have credibility. Sorry you lost your friend. :(

The ones I know are racist, and it only begins there. Just total assholes. I don't get it.

There are about 20 cops (mostly SWAT members) that train with me at the gym I go to. The cops (3) that are not swat constantly tell stories about the shit they have to put up with from citizens. Obviously this is their side of the events, but I think it should be remembered when discussing cops attitudes. Of the three non-SWAT cops, 2 are Hispanic, one White. One of the Hispanic cops is a really great guy. The other two are bigoted in their views. The SWAT members (two female) are a bit more hard core. If they get sent somewhere, they typically are not dealing with your run of the mill citizen. They tend to be more reserved/calculating and typically don't share much of what they do. Not sure if I can describe this right, but they seem quiet, yet intense. Like they know how good they are and don't feel the need to 'prove themselves to be tough', but will kick the shit out of you if you cross the line.

They live in NYC.... the city of assholes.... I would say that is part of it.

I think you're jealous and resentful that you don't live in NYC.

I love visiting NYC every now and again. It is a fun city in small doses. But please, be honest... I am wrong about the NYC asshole problem in general? That city is wound tight and the snap factor is far higher there than in most parts of the country. Laid back is hardly EVER used to describe a New Yorker.

Maybe you spend too much time in the financial district. You should go to the village, or the upper east side. The financial district is filled with assholes especially in the bars after 5. I try to avoid it at all costs. How about Little Italy? I love it there in the nice weather. I was there once when some cast members of the Sopranos walked into the restaurant, and of course, I had no idea who they were. There are some great places in Harlem and Spanish Harlem that cannot be described as uptight. You have to get around.

And, I'm laid back. Everyone says so.

There is definitely a sort of amped-up energy to NYC; I agree w/ Darla that someplace like the financial district is more where you would find genuine rudeness (or Grand Central/Times square at rush hour, that kind of thing), but there are large parts of the city that are separate from that. But still, the whole place is generally amped-up, which is one of the things I love about it.

I've been to CA quite a few times, and it's basically the opposite - the cliche of the "laid back" vibe is absolutely true, and I loved that when I was out there, as well.

You'd probably live longer in CA. But NYC is a lot more interesting & fun most of the time...at least for me.

I agree, though I do love California. Especially San Francisco. But I just get so jacked up in NYC. I love it. And I know some of the funnest places to go. There's this Cuban place in Spanish Harlem that you could just spend all night in listening to the music and drinking the best mojitos, and the food is great too.

But the financial district...it always reminds me of Wolfram and Hart from Angel. I don't know if anyone here has ever been inside the old Bear Sterns Building, that is now occupied by JP Morgan. Seriously there's a total evil vibe there.

I'll also note that Native Americans must have the least, their reported use is clearly less than all three of these drug pounding moron "races"...

Which in NYC means she speaks slightly slower than the Izvestia News Reporters, slightly faster than Kennedy, and only gets angry twice ever 10 minutes. Laid back... in NYC that's smooth as butta'

It depends on who I'm with. I'd probably pepper spray you before we even got to the subway station. However, there are other people I can hang with and not get mad at all night. It's all situational Damo. :)
