Fellow Christians, what does this passage mean to you?

" Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and He is the saviour of the body. "

The family unit is a picture of the church. The church is the bride, Jesus is the husband, the head. Wives treat their husbands like they would Jesus and the husband is to be like Jesus and love his wife like Jesus loves the church. A circle of love.

I see this as an example of the scripture being used to control women.

So in this senario, what is the difference between the role of the Husband and that of the wife? Who makes the family decisions?

IN a pratical sense what does it mean to treat a man as if he is Jesus, and what does it mean to love someone like Jesus loves the Church?

If you treat the man as Jesus, you would have to call him Lord and worship him as your Savior. It would also be a sexless marriage, because Jesus was a virgin who never married.

Just as one puts their life in the hands of Jesus saying, "Thy will be done", the wife puts her body in the hands of her husband and says, Thy will be done", at which point we have a very, very, very happy hubby.

I think anyone past the age of majority realizes that when a woman freely offers her body to a man the man will do just about anything to please her. That's no doubt why my second marriage has surpassed the length of my first. :)

of course you do. the standard liberal view is that only the government is given the right and authority to exert control. all others are less than equal.

Actually, the passage specifically puts the woman as subservient to the man. And while Paul was no champion of women, there has been much debate among scholars about how much of Ephesians was actually written by Paul. A large number of biblical scholars place 80% of that book in question as far as who wrote it.

Had the passage placed men and women on equal ground I would have less of an issue with it.

To me it tells me how much of a retarded moron that you are. In another thread today you cited the same passage with more context and I schooled you on it, so you ran away and tried to get away with your Christian bashing here. :palm:

Full context? You guys don't consider full context when we're talking about the Qur'an.

if you're talking about me, you're dead wrong. "you guys" indicates you're including me. and nothing is further from the truth.

but glad to know you have nothing to add but "they do it too mommy".....all the while whining when others do that

hypocrite

they are both subservient to each other.

Actually, it doesn't. You are making the same mistake Jughead made in another thread, and assuming that "submit to" means the same thing as "subservient." It's a common misinterpretation, and I'm not saying some Christians don't believe exactly that, but it's not what the passage says, and that is what we have to go by.

He took it out of the other thread that he started with the same topic because of verses that others posted that showed the full context of what this meant. He expects them to be lazy and not transfer their posts, usually it works. At some point I am going to start merging all his threads that are on the same topic with hardly any difference between them so that people can see the full context of his posts to begin with...
