The family unit is a picture of the church. The church is the bride, Jesus is the husband, the head. Wives treat their husbands like they would Jesus and the husband is to be like Jesus and love his wife like Jesus loves the church. A circle of love.
I see this as an example of the scripture being used to control women.
of course you do. the standard liberal view is that only the government is given the right and authority to exert control. all others are less than equal.
So in this senario, what is the difference between the role of the Husband and that of the wife? Who makes the family decisions?
IN a pratical sense what does it mean to treat a man as if he is Jesus, and what does it mean to love someone like Jesus loves the Church?
Wut?
Winterborn is a conservative.

" Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and He is the saviour of the body. "

Full context? You guys don't consider full context when we're talking about the Qur'an.
Actually, the passage specifically puts the woman as subservient to the man. And while Paul was no champion of women, there has been much debate among scholars about how much of Ephesians was actually written by Paul. A large number of biblical scholars place 80% of that book in question as far as who wrote it.
Had the passage placed men and women on equal ground I would have less of an issue with it.
