Worrisome gas price trend for Americans​



U.S. prices jumped from $2.972 per gallon on Feb. 28, as the first Israel-U.S. attacks on Iran began, to an average $4.167 on April 8, a gain of nearly 40% and, at the time, an 83% jump for the year.

Then, there was a lull as peace talks were held; then, talk of a deal. Or,Trump was talking about a deal. And the U.S. average fell 4.6% to $3.977 on April 19.

Alas, the lull was short-lived.

The price is now about $4.07 per 42-gallon barrel because light sweet crude, the U.S. benchmark, rose 14% in the past week as worries grew the war and the illegal blockade in the Arabian Sea were nowhere nearing an end.

Brent crude, the global benchmark, was up 17% to $105.33 a gallon.

The uncertainty has meant that gas prices in California, the highest-priced state, are nearing $6 on average and rising.

Averages in two rural counties — Mono and Lassen — already are above $6.40 and prices counties near San Francisco are at or near $6.

The cheapest gas in the United States is still in Oklahoma, with a statewide average of $3.47.

Rising prices across the United States couldn’t come at a worse time for the politicians in Washington.

The big problem consumers and businesses now face is that crude oil increasingly isn’t there, however, or not enough of it.

Shortages are growing in gasoline, jet fuel and related products.

Before the war, some 20% of the world’s oil moved from countries in the Persian Gulf region through the strait into the global market, particularly Asia.

That supply has mostly been cut off by the US Navy and this has set off bidding wars for the oil that is available.

About 9.1 million barrels of oil per day was blocked into the Gulf in March after the cowardly sneak attacks on Iran began, according to JP Morgan estimates.

In April, the shortages grew to 13.7 million barrels a day.

Goldman Sachs thinks the shortages are now closer to 14.5 million barrels a day.

How might that affect prices in America?

They’ll be higher.

Some countries, including the United States, have drawn down strategic reserves to try to make up some of the difference.

Soaring prices has reduced gasoline and other purchases. Airlines have had to cancel flights because they can’t get the jet fuel.

Diesel fuel supplies, used by trucks, train locomotives and many manufacturing facilities are also shrinking, Bloomberg News reported.

the result has been to make up shortfalls of some 8 million barrels a day. But the global problem is that the global market is still some 2 million barrel short. OilPrice.com reported.

So, prices will probably continue to rise to force consumer demand off the market, analyst Natasha Kaneva wrote in the JPMorgan report.

While the United States is a net exporter, shortages will show up because of refinery capacity.

Most U.S. gasoline is refined in and along the Gulf Coast and piped to the Midwest and East. The Northeast is especially vulnerable.

Walking more and eating less will be good for you, Americans.

"Inflation fatigue" has become a genuine political liability.

With the conflict in Iran pushing gas over $4 a gallon and inflation jumped to 3.3% in March, the administration's "golden age" is starting to sound out of step with daily life.

That disconnect between messaging and reality is becoming harder to ignore as price pressures linger month after month.

The latest inflation numbers show that, for voters, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data is far less important than the cost of daily necessities.

In other words, people aren't tracking economic trends — they're tracking what it costs to live week to week.

While April's CPI report suggests inflation isn't accelerating quite as fast, that cooling hasn't brought any real relief to bank accounts.

For the GOP, that $4-a-gallon gas mark can be dangerous, because when gas stays under $4, the economy feels noticeably more manageable for many Americans.

Once it crosses that line, frustration spikes — especially in the suburbs and working-class swing districts that decide elections.

Those areas tend to be especially sensitive to commuting costs, where even a modest rise in fuel prices can ripple quickly through household budgets.

The stakes are higher than just polling numbers, too.

If fuel costs continue to creep up, it feeds the narrative that household budgets are still underwater, no matter what the data says.
 
Energy prices projected to rise 24% this year; overall commodity prices expected to climb 16%


Energy prices are projected to surge 24% this year, as the war in the Middle East shocks global commodity markets, the World Bank Group said Tuesday.

In its latest Commodity Markets Outlook report, the bank forecast overall commodity prices to rise 16% in 2026, driven by higher energy and fertilizer prices and record-high prices for several key metals.

Attacks on energy infrastructure and shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which handles 20% of global seaborne crude oil trade, have triggered the largest oil supply shock on record, cutting global oil supply initially by 10 million barrels per day, said the report.

The World Bank expects Brent crude to average $86 per barrel in 2026, up from $69 in 2025, assuming most acute disruptions end in May and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz gradually returns to pre-war levels by late 2026.

Fertilizer prices forecast to jump 31%

“The war is hitting the global economy in cumulative waves: first through higher energy prices, then higher food prices, and finally, higher inflation, which will push up interest rates and make debt even more expensive,” said Indermit Gill, the World Bank Group’s chief economist and senior vice president for Development Economics.

He said the poorest people and developing economies, already struggling under heavy debt burdens, would be hit hardest.

Fertilizer prices are projected to increase 31% in 2026, driven by a 60% jump in urea prices, while fertilizer affordability is expected to fall to its worst, threatening farmers’ incomes and future crop yields.

The report also said a prolonged conflict could push up to 45 million more people into acute food insecurity this year, citing the World Food Program.

Prices for base metals, including aluminum, copper and tin, are expected to reach all-time highs, while precious metals are forecast to rise 42% on average as geopolitical uncertainty drives demand for safe-haven assets.

Developing economies’ inflation seen at 5.1%

The World Bank said higher commodity prices will increase inflation and weaken growth worldwide.

Inflation in developing economies is projected to average 5.1% in 2026, one percentage point higher than expected before the war, while growth in developing economies is forecast at 3.6%, a downward revision of 0.4 percentage points since January.

The report warned that Brent crude could average as high as $115 per barrel in 2026 if hostilities escalate, critical oil and gas facilities suffer more damage and export volumes recover slowly.

“The succession of shocks over the decade has sharply reduced the fiscal space available to respond to the current historic energy supply crisis,” said Ayhan Kose, the World Bank’s deputy chief economist and director of the Prospects Group.
 

US airlines seek billions in aid amid soaring fuel costs​



Their trade group is asking the Trump administration for $2.5bn to offset rising jet fuel costs and keep ticket prices affordable.

The Association of Value Airlines said smaller carriers are being hit hardest by the jump in fuel prices, despite carrying more than 90 million passengers last year.

“Temporary government support” would help “preserve vital industry competition”, the association said.

Another member, Spirit, is separately in talks with the US government on a potential financing deal aimed at keeping the struggling carrier flying as it navigates fuel price shocks during its second bankruptcy since 2024.

The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, in a post on social media platform X, clarified its legal standing regarding maritime regulations and the current security situation in the region.



The statement emphasized that Iran is not a party to the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and, therefore, is not bound by its treaty-based provisions.

Sovereignty Over the Strait of Hormuz​

The Mission asserted Iran’s position as the primary coastal State of the Strait of Hormuz, noting:

1. The Strait lies within Omans and Iran’s territorial seas.

2. Iran maintains the “legitimate and legal right” to take necessary and proportionate measures to address emerging security threats.

3. Action will be taken to ensure safe navigation and prevent the “misuse of the Strait of Hormuz for hostile or military purposes.”



Accountability for Maritime Disruption​

The Mission explicitly held the United States accountable for current instabilities, stating that any disruption to maritime transport in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, along with the resulting consequences, “lie with the U.S., whose unlawful actions endanger international navigation.”



Conditions for Lasting Stability​

According to the statement, lasting stability and security in the Persian Gulf and the wider region can only be achieved through:

  • A durable and permanent cessation of aggression against Iran.
  • Credible guarantees of non-recurrence.
  • Full respect for the legitimate sovereign rights and interests of Iran.

Good manners are all about making sure that you do not unduly annoy, irritate, offend people around you though your own behaviour. It is also about being polite and courteous. When I walk pat another person on the sidewalk, I tip my hat and smile and say "Good Morning" although it only a small gesture, it's important, it is a token your respect for someone (another person/human being) whom you do not know, but is says to that stranger, I wish you no ill and implicitly alerts him to the fact you have some genuine consideration for the fact that he is a worthy of your acknowledgement "Good Morning") because every person has dignity/v (moral) worth/alue in their own right. They have it in its own right - they have it simply for being the person (the unique individual) that they are Good manners is also evident in behaviours like vacating your seat on a bus or a train for an elderly person or a woman who is pregnant or carrying and infant , or to give you an American example, while I was standing in a queue of passengers waiting to board a flight at Brisbane Airport, I suddenly heard a quietly-spoken man, with a broad American accent, say to "Me: "Excuse me, Sir, but one of your shoelaces is undone - wouldn't want you to trip over on it." I said to him, "Thank you very much. "And I immediately thought to myself what a nice, considerate person his guy must be (he was around the same age as I was at the time). Then I thought to myself no Australian would ever have been so considerate - (because I'm afraid, that (White-Anglo Australians (esp. males) used to have a well- earned reputation for coarse, boorish behaviour and bad manners, especially in the latter half of the 20th century. I think (hope !) we are a lot better now. I mean we weren't as bad as the "Ratchet"/"Ghetto" Blacks in America or the Blacks in Sub-Saharan Africa or Haitian!! (Who fucking ate peoples house pets when Harmala Harris air-lifted a shitload of them into some small, White, Mid-Western city in Ohio in 2023/4. This was an outrageous example of 'bad manners' on steroids. because when you are a guest in a community, you should be particularly mindful of what is regarded as well-mannered behaviour. Eating someone's pet Dachshund or Persian cat after you abducted from the front yard, then used it to make a blood sacrifice the Great Voodoo Spirit, "Baron Samedi," is not good, fucking manners.

THIS IS A CONTINUATION OF MY POST (ABOVE) IN RESPONSE TO SOME WRETCH _(A WHITE AMERICAN) -ON THIS FORUM WHO HAD BEEN MAKING DISPARAGING REMARKS ABOUT MODERM WESTERN CULTURE/CIVILISATION. HE HAS GONE SO FAR AS TO SAY, "IRAN IS BEHAVING MUCH MORE CIVILIZED THAN THE DYING WEST" (A preposterous remark that speaks for itself).

I have a very firm belief that the Western Culture/ Civilisation today - (where it still exists) - in countries like America, the United Kingdom, the Scandinavian nations (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, etc). the nations of Northern and Western Europe, ( such as Holland, Switzerland Austria and Belgium); Australia, Canada and Ireland among others - while it is gravely threated by a mass ingress (via illegal immigration of low-trust, low-IQ, pig-ignorant, "Third World" Darkies" , Boongs; Wogs; Black/ Brown Arabs and other Islamist swine from across the Middle East.






As well as these. Western Civilisation is increasingly threatened by a rising tide of dirty "Pooka-Wallahs' and "Fart-Catchers" from the Indian Sub-Continent. These are individuals from a culture where crapping (with a passion) on a 24/7 basis all over the streets of their main slums, for instance, in.: in Bombay; Delhi, Bopoop, and Jaipur is "celebrated". There is so much human faeces being excreted every day, in public, throughout India, that any self-respecting, White tourist, is obliged to: "hopscotch" or "fandango" or "Break-Dance" his way along all of the "highways and byways "in every Indian city centre. Every street, every pavement and sidewalk, every shop- front, every water fountain well is lousy with little piles of the "Brown Stuff" (And I can tell you, -from personal experience, - that the cloying foetor sweating off these legion turds - is very often suffused with a pungent, "curry spice" stench. I recall this (particular) diabolical miasma wafting into a massage parlour I once patronized in Bombay (I think it was a "TITS 'R' US" franchise) and completely ruining the pleasure of a 100 Rupee, topless massage I was enjoying at the time. On top of this, virtually every urban area in the entire sub- continent is blighted with countless piles of domestic trash steadily decomposing on every street corner, all the way along city sidewalks/pavements, festering in bus shelters. standing outside train stations, across parking lots. and so on.






All things considered, cities in America like San Francisco City and Baltimore seem positively clean and hygienic in comparison to filthy "Third World". "Darkie: Hell-Holes like India! Having mentioned San Francisco, I'd like to use the tragic example of California to demonstrate the destructive power of mass legal/illegal immigration from "Shithole (as President Trump aptly put it) countries" with "Shithole" cultures. You Yanks can relate to California because it was, in the 1960s a beautiful, Arcadian "utopia" (American--style). So how did California morph from "The Golden State) when Ronald Reagan was Governor in the 1960s, to the messed-up place it is today? This is how and why it happened.....






In the early 1990s, the Governor of California was a Republican named Pete Wilson, there was gubernatorial election scheduled for 1994 Wilson was facing a strong challenge from the Democrat candidate. One of the big issue was public discontent with the number of Mexican (Hispanic/Latino immigrant arriving in the state and then living on Welfare (i.e. free schooling, free access to English/Spanish translators free healthcare, full unemployment benefits, subsidised housing, SNAP and so on. This issue was not provoked or "cooked up" by the Republics, rather it emerged organically, independent (of any party-political influences) from the native, white population in the state/ From memory, there had a down-turn in the state's economy over recent years. A lot of workers had "felt the pinch", and many household budgets has come under considerable stress. If you were one of the people affected, then the fact there were a large. and growing number of foreign migrants in the state. the majority of whom were sucking freebies, "BIG TIME", from the generous teat of the Welfare state would be highly likely to REALLY piss you off. RIGHT? Yes, RIGHT!





In the run-up to the 1994 election, Pet Wilson made the complaints from the native White Californians about the costs of the Welfare that was provided to many members of the state's Hispanic/Latino immigrants (legal and illegal) his major election issue. He and his Republican colleagues drafted a ballot initiative for the 1994 election that was named. "PROPOSITION 187." Voters who endorsed "PROP 187' agreed that there should be no more automatic, "no questions asked; generous welfare FREEBIES provided by the government for Mexican/Latino persons who were living in California as illegal immigrant and/or were unable support themselves for whatever reason/s. "PROP i87'. if passed by a majority the electorate would enable Pete Wilson to "turn off the Welfare tap," for these immigrant Mexicans and Latinos - and deter more of them from arriving in the state because it was costing California a fucking fortune, that it could not afford. Pete Wilson won the 1994 election for Governor of California by a solid margin, and somewhere around 65 -7% of the electorate voted "YES" to "PROPOSITION 187" BUT, LITERALLY TWO (2) DAYS after Wilson won the 1994 election and PROPOSITION 187 had been passed, a shitload of Democrat lawyers petitioned a Federal Judge arguing that "PROPOSITIOM 187" was unconstitutional; These were the kind of slick, professional shysters who knew every legal technicality within the relevant law that they could use for taking a scalpel to "PROPOSITION 187" And sure enough the presiding Judge issued an injunction against the implementation of the measures set down in "PROP 187" It turned out that the legal case of "PROP 187" was "held up in Court" for years by the Democrats (their lawyers) and ultimately it just "faded away" over time, "gathering dust on the shelf . It's fate was end up as a legal "dead letter" - and after that, a small, forgotten footnote in America's political history. WHICH IS A SHAME, BECAUSE THE STORY OF "PROPOSITION 187"PROVIDES A LESSON FOR AMERICA THAT SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN EVERY SCHOOL AND NEVER FORGOTTEN.

Iran reserves right to counter US state-sponsored piracy​




Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Amir Saeid Iravani, has described the United States’ seizure of Iranian commercial vessels as “state-sponsored piracy and terrorism,” emphasizing the right of the Islamic Republic to counter these actions.

Iravani made the remarks on Monday in a letter addressed to the UN secretary-general and the UN Security Council president, as the US continues its naval blockade on Iran, seizing more commercial vessels.

The following is the full text of the Iranian envoy’s letter:

Excellencies,

Upon instructions from my Government, and further to my previous letter dated 21 April concerning the unlawful seizure of Iranian commercial vessels by the United States, I write to bring to the urgent attention of Your Excellency and the members of the Security Council the continuing internationally wrongful acts of the United States through yet another the piracy-style seizure and deliberate targeting of commercial vessels, namely the M/T Majestic and M/T Tifani. In this regard, I wish to draw attention to a recent public statement issued by a United States Attorney, which constitutes an explicit and deliberate admission of internationally wrongful conduct. In a social media post on 27 April, the U.S. Attorney boasted on the pirate-style seizure of two vessels, M/T Majestic and M/T Tifani, and the subsequent stealing of 3.8 million barrels of Iranian oil.

The U.S., Attorney's statement clearly confirms that the United States armed forces have interdicted, boarded, and forcibly seized Iran's commercial vessels on the high seas, on the basis of their bullying attitude. Such conduct is nothing but another clear example of U.S. addiction to lawlessness and constitutes a flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations, in particular Article 2(4). Moreover, the U.S.’s actions fall squarely within the definition of an act of aggression under United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3314 (1974), which defines aggression as the use of armed force by a State against another State in contravention of the Charter, including inter alia, attacks by the armed forces of a State against the marine fleet of another State. As a matter of fact, the United States has, through its own official confession, confirmed the use of armed force against vessels engaged in legitimate commercial activity.

These heinous, wrongful acts further violate established rules of international law governing the law of the sea, pose a direct threat to maritime safety and security, and escalate the volatile situation in the region. In substance and effect, such actions are identical to state-sponsored piracy and terrorism, carried out under the guise of domestic processes that have no standing under international law.

The invocation of domestic arrangements, which are illegal by nature, cannot, under any circumstances, justify such an abhorrent crime committed by the use of force. Such conduct amounts to unlawful coercion, interference with legitimate international commerce, and the illegal seizure of property, while setting a dangerous precedent that severely undermines the rule of law at the international level.

The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically condemns and unequivocally rejects these acts of aggression and state-sponsored piracy. The United States bears full and undeniable international responsibility for all consequences arising from these unlawful actions, including their serious impact on international navigation, maritime safety, and regional and international peace and security. The Islamic Republic of Iran has every right, in accordance with international law, to counter these insolent actions. In light of the foregoing, the Islamic Republic of Iran calls on the Security Council to:

  • Condemn in the strongest possible terms these acts of aggression, and reject the unlawful practice of enforcing unilateral coercive measures and their blatant inconsistency with the Charter of the United Nations and international law;
  • Demand the United States immediately cease such illegal actions and the immediate and unconditional release of all seized vessels, cargo, and property; and
  • Take urgent and concrete measures to prevent the recurrence of such grave violations, which pose a direct threat to international peace and security, freedom of navigation, and the integrity of the international legal order.
 
Yes, it was Iran that imposed a blockade. The US simply didn't do anything to crush that when Iran did it. That would been the simple solution given the impotency and total lack of military capacity Iran has.

For example, the US should have, and could have sunk and shot up everything bigger than a rowboat in Iranian harbors. Ends that nonsense with the IRG and their little motorboats. Iran could have done nothing to stop that.
