Yes, the U.S. government, as established by the Constitution, is fundamentally intended to promote the general welfare of its citizens.
Yeah so? Paying for people to have food everyday would do far more to "promote the general welfare of it's citizens" than cancer research, why isn't the govt paying for everyone's food?

If you care so much you and your lefty friends can pay for the research.

We have SNAP.

This isn't about us caring. This is about Trump and his people caring.

Heaven forbid Trump being diagnosed with cancer.

So we can waste millions on commercials to improve Kristi the Dog Killer Noem’s reputation after South Park skewered her.

A standalone version of that bill had already passed the House and is basically waiting for the Senate. For nine months. Why don't Schumer and the Democrats want to fund it? They control the Senate.

wait, so without the gobblement, there never be research into cancer?

they only way it can happen is with taxpayer dollars?

The value comes from tapping the collected abilities and resources of the entire nation. It got us to the moon and more advances in daily tech than you can shake a stick at. So why not put that power to use to solve Cancer? It's proven to be much harder to cure than expected centuries ago.

Federal funding into core scientific research has been the policy of this country since World War 2. There is no guarantee of profit from core scientific research, that's why we don't trust MAGA morons when they holler that the magic of free markets will take care of everything.

policy can and needs to change.

time to get back to original intent - protect individual liberty. not allow you to force us to pay for your pet projects

You're simply too stupid to recognize the vast amount of benefits that came from public-funded research. You are like a toddler who thinks food just appears and you don't recognize that mommy and daddy pay for it.

the benefit of force is power and control

you are too stupid to see the forest through the trees

Actually it goes back to the early 1800's. The USDA established public funded scientific research which lead directly to countless advances all because of publicly funded science.

They even have a cool "timeline" of things that were invented by the USDA

Nearly 50% of "blockbuster" drugs were developed from NIH funded research.

The amount of benefit from public funding of science has been ASTOUNDING.
