Joy Reid claims "Whites can't invent anything" and they stole all their ideas from black people.

An interest historical note on slavery... for the first 60 years of slavery existing in America, almost all the slaves were either White, Indentured Servants transported from England, Ireland, and Scotland, or people of the Native American Tribes from the Eastern seaboard.

In the that era, it was actually allot better to be an actual full slave, rather than an Indentured Servant. A slave was for life, so the owner took some care to see that the property stayed well enough to keep working.

An Irish Indentured Servant was for just seven years, though many kept them for many years past that. In any case, if the local judge was of a egalitarian mind, he would insure the seven year contract was honored. So the owner knew he was going to lose the worker in just a few years, so they fed them little and worked them so hard, that 80% of the Indentured Servants died before their sixth year.

...
As the demand for labor in the West Indies grew with the cultivation of sugarcane, Europeans exported enslaved Native Americans to the "sugar islands". Historian Alan Gallay estimates that between 1670 and 1715, 24,000 to 51,000 captive Native Americans were exported through Carolina ports, of which more than half, 15,000-30,000, were brought from then-Spanish Florida.[23] These numbers were more than the number of Africans imported to the Carolinas during the same period.

Gallay also says that "the trade in Indian slaves was at the center of the English empire's development in the American South. The trade in Indian slaves was the most important factor affecting the South in the period 1670 to 1715"; intertribal wars to capture slaves destabilized English colonies, Florida and Louisiana.[23] Additional enslaved Native Americans were exported from South Carolina to Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
...

So, America's first slaves were not Blacks, they were Whites and Native Americans.

The reality of Slavery is much different than what most Americans believe. Don't judge the banjo player by his being blind.

I watched the clip.

She was talking about MUSIC.

And yes, blacks did "invent" all forms of modern day popular music.

Rock & roll, R&B, jazz and blues especially.

To me, Joy Reid seems like the kind of person who holds onto her victim-hood very tightly, because she has little else to offer.

She blames "Whites" and wants to "Punish Them" for their evil deeds, by demanding money from them, Even though many of the first slaves were whites. And Native Americans. And the blacks brought from Africa, to Jamaica, to work the sugar plantations, were sold to the Dutch transporters, by other Black African Tribesman. Whites did not Capture Blacks in Africa, they bought them from other Blacks. (with a few exceptions)

The Native American Slaves sold to American Plantations were mostly captives from intra-Tribal Warfare among the Native American Tribes.

It took around 60 years, and several generations of slaves living in Jamaica, before they began to be imported from the Caribbean into the Southern States of the U.S. This was done mostly because the Native Americans were very poor slaves. They wouldn't follow instructions, they often rebelled or ran away, and they sometimes killed their owners and their families.

The Blacks coming directly from African Tribes would have been equally dangerous, until several generations of enslavement took the independence out of them.

At the time it all started, just about every society on earth was practicing slavery, particularly the English, who were largely enslaving the Irish.

Black Slaves did NOT invent this music:

It was Irish Indentured servants who later became the "Crackers" of Florida and the Carolina's. The Term Cracker does refer to a whip, but it was NOT being used to drive Black Humans, but rather cattle, who would graze the summers in the Carolina's and then winter in Florida. The winters in the Carolina's were just too cold. Those indentured Irish who survived the indentured period of seven years (or more) and were set free, were some very tough people.

They became America's first Cowboys, drovers who moved the herds north the green pastures of the Carolina's and brought them back in the fall, using whip cracks to drive the herds though the thick trees. They were a nomadic and rustic, but proud and tough people.

This style of music, was something derived from Irish fiddle music, but adapted to a unique style of American Music. They had far more Banjos than Fiddles because they are easier and cheaper to build and maintain in a rough nomadic lifestyle.

These people did NOT practice slavery, having been through slavery themselves.
